What is the fascination with classes?

why are people so wrapped around the axle on not allowing the flexibility that we have now and insisting on restricting the playstyle of others?  people can set their loadout however they like so they can play in the framework of a traditional class if they want to.  why do proponents of classes want to force that on others?

is it really that important to you to know someone is an engineer even though they may be running AT mines and a repair tool and not rockets?  what if the support is carrying a mortar and claymores and not ammo.  what does seeing their class really do for you?  it doesn't tell you what they can do or what they are carrying

please explain to me what you actually GAIN from classes, because i can only see what you LOSE by having them

@Stew360 In my opinion, most players that dislike the specialists, most likely also disliked BF4 classes, for the same reason.

This is, of course, a lot of speculation on my side.

People complain there is less team play with the Specialists, and I believe the reason behind this is, that the BF3 class defining gadgets now are only secondary gadgets, and that way are less likely to be used in the players loadouts.

And yes, I still think, I am allowed to say, that the BF4 classes are a superior design compared to Specialists, and Specialists and BF2 and BF3 classes are pretty much the same.

@Tank2042Man Maybe it depends on the modes you play.
I mainly play Breakthrough-64 and -128. I guess in an asymmetric mode, player choices are quite different from symmetric modes like Conquest.

Sure I see more Boris turrets defending objectives, but the attacker usually knows where to expect them, and you can usually disable a couple of the easily with one EMP grenade.

But usually you see a lot of Angel crates plastering the field on both sides.

This is the kind of question that would ask a lonewolf camper who did not play older version of BF.

If you don't know why are those "limited" classes so needed to play BF then you don't know what the real BF is about.

  • @kregora Yet BF4 was classes system base and far less predictable than 2042 wich is the middle ground between totally unimaginative locked classes like BF2 and overly custumizable classes like BF4 ..

Specialist are 50% predictable at least while BF4 was 100% unpredictable .. Thats said the hate campaign toward specialist isnt justified neither is it justifiable ..At this point we know poeoples just love to hate on EA even if EA is far less worst than Sony , nintendo , Activision , 2K , Taketwo etc.. All those companies have far worst shady practices and yet here we are ..

Specialist system is by far the best system to build squad synergy while provinding enoug queus on what to expect from x and y specialist ...

@Stew360 Where do You get those statistics from?

"unimaginative locked classes like BF2" - dude, like seriously.

Assault in BF2 translates into Rifleman, Rifleman Grenadier as in USMC. Support is basically Automatic Rifleman with ammo crate. Sniper is a Marksman. Anti-Tank is AT Grenadier. I would quarrel and say that META builds in 2042 have no ground in even reality. Just holding a certain weapon type indicated and determined a certain playstyle and behavior.

"we know poeoples just love to hate on EA even if EA is far less worst than Sony" - so what, EA is supposed to be a lesser Evil amongst spawn of Evil, that`s a very noble notion...

"Specialist system is by far the best system to build squad synergy" - if You`re aiming at Planetside and Apex crossover then You`re absolutely right.

@Stew360 But abilities of the Specialists is only one side of the medallion. The other side is a faction specific representation.

I'd rather don't know what someone is capable of, than not knowing if they are friend or foe.

The Hero Approach let to some design decisions, unfitting to a military shooter with a gritty backstory. This feels like encountering full squads of the same Legendary in BFV all over again, all the time.

Ehi Rag, is it possible to implement a "user block" function in the forum?

I think it would benefit many here.

@BlackSize23-ITA I do not see any user block function in the settings. I'll provide the feedback to the forum team that such a function may be helpful.

Guess playing every battlefield since bf2 except bfv and bf heroes doesn't count huh?
