I am bit salty that this game series has took this trend follower path instead of following its own trendsetter path. Fortunately, competition comes to consoles from other shooters. If '83 game ever comes to consoles, it could fill old-schooled Battlefield experience place with focus on fun teamwork and authentic experience. Sorry for this rant but I can't enjoy Battlefield even if I would want. It has changed too much into direction I can't stomach ☹️

The problem is that they do not seem to have a clear target audience.They tried to please everyone and so they please nobody enoughSerious World War 3 and climate change vibe while also having happy jesters who make silly jokes as the playable characters.Vehicles but not enough vehiclesInfantry dominance but no infantry only meatgrinderHalf baked Escape from tarkov knockoffRealistic physics but not actually worth calling it a simulationArcade movement stunts but mostly grounded in reality.Hero shooter but actually also tries to have classes.A full price Triple A title but it has expensive Free to play style store content.It is a lot like trying to cook a dish by using a bit of every single ingredient available without any regard about what ingredients can mix. It results at the best of times in a mixed brown mush that has no distinct quality and at worst a sludge that one would hesitate to even give to their dog.You do not grill a steak to serve it inside a bowl of fish soup. You are supposed to either decide to serve Steak or Fish soup.What we need is a Battlefield game tailored to those who chose Battlefield games over Apex, CoD, Counterstrike, Tarkov etc.

BF2042's vision is such a mess, it's hard to know who it was aimed at.Rendezook and C5 buggy in the trailer was aimed at the BF3/BF4 people.Portal aimed at modders and players from the PC era.Specialists aimed at marvel comic fans?Diversity, climate Armageddon and childish EOR voice lines aimed at the trend chasers.When all is said and done none of the above ruins the game for me but 2042 sure does have an identity crisis and the people who greenlit the final vision at release should be kept far away from the next battlefield game.

@Valttispipo_Olpa In my opinion the game was intended to be about a different kind of Battlefield, where you have small no-pats squads that extract intel from mainly civilian areas with para military presence to sell them to the super powers. (aka Hazard Zone) So I assume the target audience was Fortnite and Warzone players.

The whole ambitions were smashed to someone took all the pieces from that smashed dream, and tried to create a more familiar Battlefield experience with it.

No wonder why I feel alienated from this game series. It has surface of Battlefield in name but deep inside it has become year after year different beast or perhaps a mutation and amalgamation of its competitors. Fast paced, ultra casual, frantic and self-focused game series where players play in their own way for their own goals and still feel frustrated when losing a match, the common goal.
Maybe I should move on. It's hard to accept I can't get joy from Battlefield. Maybe in future indie developers will start to create games in market gap left by Refractor era games.

For me, I was fine with the way the game was at first and then the devs started trying to implement things that would cater to the ones that were crying about different things trying to bring them back and is still ongoing with wanting to bring back classes. Which to me has now ruined the game for me and has done nothing to bring back the other players. Almost like a catch-22. Bring back the ones that were crying about it and run off the ones that enjoyed the game from the start. Almost like they are trying to ruin the game so it just dies.

@NazT55 You do realize the game was on absolute life support a few months ago and now players are coming back once said features returned, right?

Like it or not, these changes that players were "crying" over brought the players back. We have literal proof of it from Steam's player stats.

2 target audiences, as far as I can tell...
The long-term, rusted-on Battlefield players (particularly BF3 & 4), plus casual Fortnite/Apex players.
Shareholders demand that every new product launch needs to sell more than the last, and Managers are incentivised accordingly. Dice/EA quickly realised that a legacy Battlefield game would not meet the sales objectives due to ageing customer base and fragmentation/casualisation of the gamer audience. So why not try to try and appeal to both?

We do now know, why not to try to appeal to both, and miss the target audience on both attempts, don't we.
So technically it was a nice tale to provide the players with Portal, and the promise, that you would be able in Portal as well as in the main game.
People speculated they would be able to play with BF3 classes and BF2042 gadgets and weapons, but this isn't possible. It might be me expecting always the worse outcome, but I believe we can't do this, so no one can proof, how much better balanced classes are than the specialists ever can be.
