They tried to please everyone and so they please nobody enough
Serious World War 3 and climate change vibe while also having happy jesters who make silly jokes as the playable characters.
Vehicles but not enough vehicles
Infantry dominance but no infantry only meatgrinder
Half baked Escape from tarkov knockoff
Realistic physics but not actually worth calling it a simulation
Arcade movement stunts but mostly grounded in reality.
Hero shooter but actually also tries to have classes.
A full price Triple A title but it has expensive Free to play style store content.
It is a lot like trying to cook a dish by using a bit of every single ingredient available without any regard about what ingredients can mix. It results at the best of times in a mixed brown mush that has no distinct quality and at worst a sludge that one would hesitate to even give to their dog.
You do not grill a steak to serve it inside a bowl of fish soup. You are supposed to either decide to serve Steak or Fish soup.
What we need is a Battlefield game tailored to those who chose Battlefield games over Apex, CoD, Counterstrike, Tarkov etc.

You completely nailed it.
The sad part is that it was the best possible situation for EA/Dice - Halo flopped SUPER hard a couple months after launch [because of similar content issues] and CoD was mediocre at best. This year they are coming up against a highly anticipated remake of MW2 (and although I'm not a huge CoD fan, or one at all) it fully falls into the year being over and being done with it all by that point.
