@FlibberMeisterIn BF4 vehicles abuse thermals for "sniping" infantry and some of the water maps can get pretty bad with the constant "bombardment" of infantry from boats using thermals.
You cannot just use smoke whenever you have to move around the map, that is not how (normally) BF works.
Also BF is not a tactical shooter, the player-number are way to big (and players too casual) for CS:GO-like game play.

I agree that the range and fx of scopes could be adjusted to make them less effective at range.
I disagree that BF isn’t a tactical shooter in/by design. But agree that it can be difficult for it to play out that way on public servers.
the appeal of BF was always that it had a tactical aspect. Though on BF4 the rhythm of play is more constant mad dash.
that said, on many servers, if you encountered a team on mic, then it became very tactical in deed. And their lies what I think made BF what it is. That ability to run and gun, aka cannon fodder, for teams that played tactically together.
It’s very hard to find perfect balance, as many peoples play style will be different and not necessarily compatible.
however, if BF continues to water down all the elements that made previous titles great, then you are ultimately left with nothing.
