Why can't we edit the rules/maps of conquest in Portal?

Title. Is there any reason that the Portal rules editor is restricted to only TDM and FFA? Seems like a huge missed opportunity... especially considering the vast majority of the userbase actually likes Portal as opposed to 2042. Even still, it's kinda disappointing to see that the best part of 2042 is literally watered down reskins of BF3/BC2/1942. Would be great if it wasn't so watered down and restricted.

Yeas, there is actually a reason which Justin Weibe shared with his followers on Twitter a couple weeks ago:

"So that is tricky. Since those modes were made in Frostbite instead of using portal logic. Would need to be rebuilt from scratch, so it’s in the “discussion” phase. But this would also need a form of spatial editor to pull off in Portal as it requires placement of mcoms etc…."

....so there you have it.  I guess the good news is that they are discussing it and it's on their radar.  They also announced that there will be new "tools, modes and tweaks to player experience gains in Battlefield Portal" following the March update.

  • Portal editor needs to allow map size/playable area changes... that TDM on BF3 map for example is way too big vs how it played back then,
