Here we go again with the bad filter...

Can you turn it off?
- @GrizzGolf that would be logical, but no. Unless "profanity" filter setting is hidden.

bird - ElliotLH3 years agoHero+@keksivaras7 'Bird' is a bit of a strange one. I guess it could be because in the UK it can be seen as being derogatory towards women (not sure about elsewhere in the world). No idea at all about 'wait after' at all though.
@keksivaras7 wrote:This happens when creating Portal server. Server title and description are both affected by this. Word "bird" is censored, and also "wait after" changes to "wait***ter".
Hi @keksivaras7 ,
Yes the censorship can be frustrating at times, but unfortunately needed due to some players abuse of the freedom otherwise given to us in the game environment.
Take as example a simple thing as making yourself your own soldier emblem, as we had it in previous BF games. Here there was a constant influx of the most extreme and despicable examples of what the worst side of human mankind brings if total freedom is offered. And still to this day we frequently still see such immature behavior popping up from players in the BF4 environment, where we still have that emblem editor available...
Now, its also a question about where the line should be drawn. What should be allowed and what should not. And unfortunately then companies with a global reach as EA/DICE will need to typically go with the lowest level of denominator, where something may be considered old fashioned or woke in some countries, the same would be considered very rude and totally unacceptable in other cultures/countries.
You also have the unfortunate situation that what appears to be perfectly ordinary words in your own language, unfortunately in another language may mean something very profane or extreme of some sort, and hence unfortunately then outright banned...
With your 'bird' here in this situation, it can have different meanings even in English. Some use it in slang for a girl. Some use it with reference to a prostitute. And some again use it as reference to a kilo of strong drugs.
So yes, EA/DICE have censored it, as e.g. online forums as this one and also like SONY PSN are at times used for organized crime message exchanges. So though at times weird and annoying for us daily users of such messaging systems, there is typically good reasons behind certain limitations to what words we can freely use.
Don't justify them. Don’t justify stupid, brainless decisions. It's beyond pathetic that you can't even communicate on chat. In BFV it's even worse. Some players can't even communicate on chat because their nicknames somehow are banned. Players are creative. If they want to offend you, they will find the way to do this. It's +16 game. Why players these days are so sensitive? Lack of scoreboard etc. You know there is an option to hide the chat (press H) or even block player on Origin. Problem solved. But why 99% player base must hurt because of 1% percent of rest of them ?
We are not kids. Because all of this woke thigs in Battlefield 2042 is a failure. It's also your fault too. You will justify all their moves, even the worse ones.Probably an automated AI directed filter. At one point my name was censored and wouldn't let me use chat.

I rarely understand how or why the censor-bot works. - UP_Hawxxeye3 years agoLegend
In any case "bird" is a common codename for military aircraft and it deserves to be whitelisted
