@TickTack121The lack of loadout restrictions is the ONLY difference and what i'm saying is that even that is not all that much of a game altering change.
And as i said: That is your opinion, mine is different. I just dislike the whole specialist thing at all. It is also just laziness of the game designers and devs. Just use the BFV customization and class system, bring in some realistic gear (by fraction) and let us choose whatever we want. Problem is solved and you can still sell a huge amount of skins.
Right now we already got 3 out of 4 specialists that contribute nothing to team. One of them already looks like a clown (Boris), one is even named like a clown (Casper). Btw no sniper in the world would have a ghillie suit combined with black gear.
Other than that, why are we getting such lame clown characters? If they would really care for the community or the fans, they would have brought back Blackburn, Recker, Montes, Pac, Dima and others from earlier games. But to explain you, what i would have expected: some serious secops soldiers instead of boring clowns. Every soldier in every squad has a unique purpose (classes).

@TickTack121the reason no past characters is it over 20years they would have retired, died or become Generals.Well if Recker was mid 20s in BF4, he would be mid 40s in BF2042 and could still fight. He would probably still be younger than good old Boris. Anyways who cares? All the specialists-fans are telling us, that is not worth to complain about their backstories or visuals. So we could probably have all of the characters from the previous BFs. If they are too old, just give us some sons, daughters, nephews...

What is interesting about this topic is how it seems some miss what the change actual means.
It means greater flexibility in new gadgets/equipment. If you look at balancing classes or adding near gear the current format of 4 classes with 2 roles each is not enough and we have many players refusing to switch to another class to counter and maps influencing what class players play.
Firstly DICE add things to help those refuses to switch. Glint on Sniper scope and kill cam all so you know where you failed and where the sniper is.
Which leads to adding near gear like grapple hook to adding to Recon would see massive complaints about not being able to sneak up on snipers because the don't wish to switch to keep the same gadgets.
Other examples Support, Recon and Medic are often looked upon by the many as secondary team players only need to be there to backup action man or Engineers. Get the kills and get the points(glory). These secondary class weapons are then nerf because the many want them kept in place as support them not killing the enemy like them.
If you don't believe look at the arguments too many snipers camping but the are not allowed to have decent short range weapons because they have the spot gear, Medics should revive not kill tanks and why is Support on a Mortar they should be here giving me ammo.
Thus the 4 class 2 roles has become to unfair for many and adding new gear to unbalanced.
Now with Specialist we can add new gear and give every player a fairer go. Note we have only seen 4.
- No weapon restriction this has the added benefit of not needing to switch specialist to stay with the squad on different maps.
- New gear can be added without making them unbalanced for instance Night vision google, Skis, SCUBA/flipper or Wingsuit
- Gadgets are no longer the sole purpose of that classes.
- .New specialist would be added with new gear.
To sum up depending on how gadgets are done you could have a squad of specialist with SCUBA carrying Ammo, Medical, RPG and sensors while on the same map you could do a whole squad of wingsuits carrying Ammo, Medical, RPG and sensors. That is a lot more flexibility then have a recon with a wingsuit and medic with grapple hook or support with sentry gun.

@TickTack121Complaints would still exist as they have names. What you are saying is way to easy, because those characters would have at least a nice backstory. Most people don't complain, because Dice gave them names. Most people are complaining about them removing classes at all. Flexibility is not always the best and i doubt, that Dice will manage to balance this out. We will even see a Meta in the Beta.
- 5 years ago@TickTack121 I just had an argument a few days ago where the guy said if DICE remove the names and the backstory was not needed.
I will make it clear names and backstory is irrelevant they are for marketing to sell the game. DICE is a business they need to make money.
The classes are still there.
Don't count on Beta showing the meta, BFV beta changed twice before release.
