Can we please get an official stance on whether this is happening or not? Console players have been asking for this since launch. Judging by the silence I'm guessing it isn't something you're considering because it'll leave PC players short, yet you ignore the fact that console players are already getting the raw deal here.
It's just common sense to have Series X and PS5 players together by default. The systems are similar specs, using similar hardware and controllers. Everyone is on a level footing. It would be nice to have an optional toggle to play with current gen and PC for those who have friends on PC or those who prefer it.
Side note, I own all 3 platforms and started BF with BF2 on PC. This isn't me pulling opinions out of thin air, aiming with m and k is so much easier than using a controller. Especially in 2042 as the aiming (like everything else) is naturally jankier compared with previous titles.
Also, I don't want to hear from PC players who don't think this is an issue. If you don't think it affects you then just move on and ignore this post. You can still play your game you'll just have less cannon fodder.

100% Agree with this.
Would be great to have a PC crossplay or console only crossplay option.
Playing on the ps4 version of 2042 with cross play on is easier to get a game than it is on ps5 or Xbx which I own both of.
Loading the ps4 version of the game I am straight into a game as its ps4 and xb1 players.

@Slickeeboy Yeah, pretty easy to find a game on PS4 version with crossplay on. And yes, we need Series X/PS5 crossplay only.
- CloverDeuce3 years agoSeasoned Ace@MortalitasWolf The official response is, NO. That type of re-coding and matchmaking will constitute way too much time and effort. At this point we can't even get persistent servers to get into a game.
Don't get me wrong, i would love console only cross-play, I'm on XBox X, but it's not going to happen.
I would be happy if they just fix the TTK/TTD issue.- Chief2GFD3 years agoSeasoned Ace@CloverDeuce It was in the Beta, so it can't be that hard.

I would be happy if they just fix the TTK/TTD issue. It's is easier than you think. This last crossplay "bug" was due to the PC players getting 32v32 Flashpoint Conquest while the consoles got 64v64 from the main menu matchmaking.
All dice has to do is to put two different matchmaking options on console/PC and we have some rudimentary console/PC separation.

Unfortunately I think Dice will continue to ignore this. We used to have console wars PS against Xbox. Now we are virtually united in this question and I personally would love to be able to play PS5 against Xbox series and vice versa.

If I remember correctly didn't most everyone want cross-play a few years ago where consoles and PC could play together? Now that we have it no one wants it. Geesh I wish people would make up their minds!
- 3 years ago@CantGetRight I don't think you remember correctly. I have followed these forums since Bf3 and I can't remember anybody on console wanting to play against PC

Or… Give us the option to crossplay WITH mouse&keyboard on PS and Xbox
- 3 years ago@MouseKeyboardPS5 only a small percentage of console players would use it. I agree it would be nice to have but I'd rather have both crossplay and m and k than just m and k support. I personally enjoy playing with a controller.

Still no word then...

Still no word on this! It was a promise made pre launch and a big factor in why I purchased the game, but still no option or even any word on this happening.

The makers of this game must all be PC players and full of you know what. They know this is the main thing console players want. They offered it in beta and they promised it at launch. Nothing but the good ol bait and switch and silence from Dice and EA! Turn crossplay off, never get a game, turn it on and youre stuck playing with a disadvantage. Good luck getting on the top 3 scoreboard or over 30 kills. The developers can add things to make you spend extra money but they cant add console only crossplay. They can add weekly escalations but they have nothing but silence on forced crossplay. So EA/Dice if you are listening... WE KNOW YOU SCREWED THE GAME UP AT LAUNCH, WE KNOW ABOUT THE COUNTLESS BUGS, UPDATES, AND ALL THE OTHER BEE ESS YOU HAVE BESTOWED UPON US SINCE WE GAVE YOU OUR MONEY. GET A CLUE AND GIVE US CONSOLE ONLY CROSSPLAY LIKE YOU PROMISED OR GIVE US OUR MONEY BACK!

@braynematterThere was crossplay with consoles only at launch. I know because I used to play with crossplay off. But as time went on there was not enough players to find a full match because most players left so I was forced to turn it on.

Just had a pc user a minute ago... Level S487 blatently using wall hacks and aimbot, go 54 and 3 in k/d ratio, been reported several times but nothing happens and we are forced to play with him and the likes of him. It is almost as if EA/DICE is endorsing and condoning it because they are just happy someone is playing their game. Either way I want a refund for the bait and switch. REFUND ME PLEASE.

Most console players would prefer to see the crossplay with PC players removed leaving them to enjoy their version of the game and then console players to enjoy theirs. It is incredibly frustrating and very uncompetitive when the inferior console experience is destroyed by the highly dominant and superior PC experience.
Not only is there no aim assist on console to counter the mouse and keyboard dominance. The quality of the newest GPU’s now running DLSS (improving input lag even more) along with the mouse and keyboard inputs where PC players have opted to shall out their hard earned on the best gear with the highest quality of capabilities leaves those even with the best controllers money can buy, wanting to smash it against the wall.
PC’s have the added advantage of far superior sound cards to really hone their audio settings for the all important footsteps amongst other tweaks all to get the best advantage. Then there are the more specific in game advantages PC players enjoy like, strafing, target acquisition, minimal weapon recoil, sliding and the general movement which just leaves you wondering WTF just happened and the speed it happened at.
Only if you have played and experienced BF 2042 from the console side can you appreciate the unfair advantage this game provides those using a good quality PC and if only we could see on the scoreboard, the players and which platform they are playing on to see the real dominance PC has over console.
You will rarely ever hear PC players in BF 2042 if ever, say, I wish we didn’t have to play with the console players. Why would they when it’s easy pickings all day long.
PS. Don't mention the cheaters on PC as that is for another day.....

I will definitely propose Console-only Crossplay if I were a project manager at DICE based on several facts.
Fact 1, Console population is larger than PC.
Fact 2, Many console players will be back if there is Console-only Crossplay
Fact 3, Console players pay more than PC players for the skins by average because they paid more for the game at the beginning. PC players spend $6 for a discounted game. Refer to BF5. PC population arises significantly after the 90% discount.
Fact 4, Console-only Crossplay brings much more incomes for DICE based on the previous facts. More console players -> more money. Easy calculation.
Fact 5, Most Console players don't want to play against PC players.
Fact 6, PC players don't want to play against console players either, because they think Console players have aim assist
Fact 7, APEX is also from EA and it's a positive example for Console-only Crossplay.

Console only crossplay is a must. Why DICE went this route in the first place is beyond me, much like many other design decisions in this game.
Others have made some great points:
- PC players playing on much better hardware with better FOV and the more precise mouse and keyboard.
- Hackers....they have arrived in 2042. Console players don't want to deal with it.
- Console player base is larger, and should get bigger with BF2042 being free on PS Plus this month
I'd add that there is a massive difference in gameplay style of console players vs PC players. Console players tend to be more wide open, throwing caution to the wind. The average console player isn't deadly accurate with controller, so the fear of getting instantly lasered isn't there. I noticed this early in the BF2042 beta and in the first few months after launch. There were enough PS5 players I could turn crossplay off and find games no problem. I would turn off crossplay, and the difference was huge:
- with crossplay on, games were slower. Not many people were moving around. I'd get lasered instantly when I leave cover.
- with crossplay off, it was the closest this game felt to BF4. The chaos level was ramped up. More people using vehicles. More people running around and getting into firefights. You could actuall GET into a firefight without being instant head shot. It was amazing!
Seriously, we need console only crossplay back with the option to turn on PC crossplay...like Apex Legends has.
- 3 years ago@ArchAngeL-PCX I only play with crossplay off these days. Can take a few minutes to get into a game but once you’re in it’ll just roll on between maps with no issues.
I agree that the games are far better and feel like battlefield. Absolute mayhem and firefights constantly. I also find it more responsive and hit reg is better. Instant death is a rarity, if I get shot I have a chance to get into cover most of the time.
It really feels like crossplay servers are laggy for console and just not working as they should. Playing with crossplay off for all of season 3 was a world of difference. The game was actually fun.
- 3 years ago@MortalitasWolf If they removed crossplay from the game between console and pc, players would still be able to find games without an issue. The steam count as of recently was 18000 players so that doesn't even include other gaming services that pc players can use so there would not be a shortage. And obviously with Xbox and psn being able to play together. This would work but I don't know why they won't do it anymore. I honestly don't want to play against pc players anymore since it's such a huge disadvantage for console players since the aim assist in this game sucks. They need to either fix the aim assist or disable crossplay

This needs to happen DICE. PC and Console should NEVER be in competitive first-person shooters together, we don't want to be a part of the sweatyness that ruins the casual fun of gaming. This terrible decision is preventing thousands and thousands of console players from playing 2042. My self and about 8 to 10 friends in my online group included. I can't imagine how many more people are in our shoes, 10 thousand? 20 thousand? More? With 2042 coming out on PS Plus today, I was able to actually have some fun in PS only lobbies, still a lot of bots (which is a problem, DICE seems to not understand and see issues sometimes lately) If we were to have PS/Xbox only crossplay, you have your console player base back. This is probably the best thing you could do for this franchise at this point in time.

I honestly don't even mind playing against mouse/keyboard. Its the fact that on console you're locked to 60 fps while on PC you could be playing at 200-300+ fps.
I started playing the PC version when it was released on gamepass, and the fps makes a night and day difference in game even when using a controller on PC- 3 years ago
For Xbox Series & PS5 - The best workaround is to play the previous console generation version where PC players aren’t included in cross play. It’s a slight step down in graphical fidelity but well worth it to avoid PC frustrations. For the Xbox 1 version to download from Gamepass you either need the disc or join a friend playing on this previous console version and it will then download automatically. Once it’s downloaded the disc is no longer required. As the PSN has it for free this month, you can download the PS4 version on your PS5. Ridiculous as it is, it’s far more enjoyable.
