Not a bad idea but lets start by making sure strike packs and other mods on console are made to be obsolete to make playing the game a better experience for all console players.
At this point I don't see an issue with splitting the player base, I agree with most here EA/DICE need to change "Cross play" to "Off" for the good of the game.

First time commenting on these BF forums but I have to agree with the OP. I think the default setting should be "Console vs. Console crossplay only" and then have it so that players can OPT IN to "Console/PC crossplay" if they so desire. I think the vast majority of console players would be more happy with this.
Heck, I have a friend who plays on PC and I'd gladly stop playing with him if it meant I'm only playing against console players. Going back to BFV and BF1 is so much more fun for various reasons but no PC players is certainly one of them. The extremely large engagement distances that 2042 allows is one of the problems that Console/PC crossplay exasperates.

At this stage of the game's life, I wouldn't expect a change on this topic. Perhaps Console only crossplay will be one of the "goodies" in the new battlefield. Sad, but most likely true.
It's not that Dice doesn't listen to us - they just want to have as many tricks up their sleeve as possible.
Same with the server browser - they will make something "big" out of it by adding it to the new Battlefield, deliberately ignoring players' opinions for now.
