How are the devs blameless? They were the ones who were supposed to have the protections in place to help mitigate this problem but it was clear they didn't. Thomas Anderson even went over this in an interview months ago with Jack Frags. He obviously couldn't reveal any details but they were aware this could be an exploit and said protections would be in place to handle it.
Obviously the cheaters are guilty of exploiting Portal with their farms but the rest of us have to pay the price for the developers lack of action to put protections in place to help prevent such behavior. There is a level of culpability on their part here for this particular problem and responsibility of EA / DICE to deal with such issues in their games. ....cheaters, hackers, exploiters, harassment, etc.
What gets me is that after the fact they implemented an XP cap that is based on minute by minute activity. However, they still won't allow full progression of Mastery, etc. Why they can't apply similar logic to those is beyond me. It would better than what we have which is nothing. ....except XP of course.
I never said they are blameless, but a lot of this goes to toward the people who were boosting. Yes they said they had protections in place, antivirus software is there to protect your computer yet people still get viruses, does that mean that if you get a virus it is the company's fault not the person who opened the bogus email to a shady link? The point I am getting at is you can never make something rock solid, if someone has a will to circumvent the system then they will find a way to find a exploit. We see it with antivirus and anticheat software all the time.
They had something, they didn't think people where going to do what they did. So now because some took advantage of the situation, they had to limit it for all....it happens in life all the time.
@VBALL_MVP To add to your people will find a way to circumvent, DICE also said you wouldn't be able to make a battle royal mode in Portal but someone found a way to make one.

There is one thing I like to change, stop putting me on the first page of the thread constantly.
