The problem is you have to use 2x the harddrive space just to play with last gen console users. It's a real kick in crotch for PS5 and series s users with their limited SSDs.
Past Battlefield titles have had different versions of the maps in the same game (64 player, 32 player, etc). Why doesn't BF2042? Why does the PS5 version not also have the 64 player maps included? Then PS5 players could queue up for the 64 player versions with their PS4 friends and not have to swap executables.

@xXHappy_PuppyXxExactly. This really is not an acceptable solution.

It doesn't use the limited, backward compatibility aspects you get in some PS4 versions of games.

@Kean_1111What does that have to do with it? I have the PS5 version of Avengers and can play with my PS4 friends without swapping executables. You play on the same maps with the same characters, each optimized for the system they run on. Pretty sure COD works the same way. There's no gameplay additions to the PS5 version of BF2042 other than map size.

I'm not familiar with the Avengers game but as I understand it, that was a PS4 title where they later offered a PS5 enhanced update, right? This is common for a lot of games where they use the PS5's backward compatibility Boost abilities to achieve better graphics, frame rates, etc. It essentially provides more benefits to PS5 owners of PS4 titles than just backward compatibility. They are not next gen, PS5 developed games though.
Unless something has changed (and maybe it has), I don't know of any games developed exclusively for next gen (at least in the case of PS5) that will allow cross-generational play. However, I do know there are games that are developed for PS4 with PS5 enhancements where both platforms can play together. There is a difference there though and which is why I'm guessing DICE had to provide two copies for PS5 players.
- 4 years ago@ArchAngeL-PCX They do have the same maps, the solo/ coop are 64 player versions and portal has all the smaller maps as well.
It makes no sense why they did this to the community.- 4 years ago
@xXHappy_PuppyXxI agree, it makes no sense at all. Portal at the least should be cross gen playable. That alone would be huge since its very likely many will just stay in Portal where there's a lot more maps and variety.
