Part of the reason the Wildcat is so ineffective vs aircraft is the fact that there’s no proximity detection modeled into the 40mm or 57mm rounds. We don’t see the classic mid air explosions when our AA rounds are near our target.
One would think that WW2 technology would be available in the the year 2042.
i'd love to see it (and would enjoy the salt from the helo pilot mains)
It is that mindset that modern AA should be all about missiles.
But the problem with the missiles is that they are binary in that they either cannot be avoided or are always avoided.
It is the thing that also made well piloted aircraft (mostly jets) a plague in BF3 and BF4, especially BF3. Probably also in BF2
Honestly I would had expected from the future to have more...futuristic solutions for combating aircraft. Currently in the real life there are experimental laser beam AAs that can take out even combat drones.
I am sure that even in the current years, there are still flak autocannons on the ground.

BF2 had the same problem. 60-0 pilots were common. BF2 didn't have any sort of AA launcher available for infantry - we only had the suicide chairs. The homing missiles from the suicide chairs could be consistently outmaneuvered by pilots or simply countered with flares.
As you point out balancing around lock-on weapons is an impossible task. Ace pilots will either solve the threat or not - neither of which is a desirable outcome.
Desert Combat did it best with dumbfire proxy fused Stingers plus high skill ceiling tanks that could punish any low flying helis/jets. Ace tankers were getting 3+ air kills a game.

What’s perplexing is the fact that we see proper Flak rounds exploding near aircraft in BFV. I know because I used to haul around the 30mm flak AA behind the APCs, deploy the gun and score lots of aircraft kills. I also used to build the flak guns.
Why/how do we not see proper mid air explosions near aircraft with the 40mm and 57mm flak rounds from the Wildcat in 2042?

Air domination still an issue. Flak physics still do not exist in 2042.
Please consider importing the BF3 AA tank over toall 2042 core game modes and retire the Wildcat until we can see proper flak physics for the 40mm and57mm flak cannons.
Also the AA tank needs its own spawn pool in every match where aircraft are present. Currently the Main Battle Tank and Wildcat share the same spawn pool. This results in obvious extraordinary imbalances for the team that doesn’t have an AA tank considering the fact that current meta is all about air domination 24/7 on every single Conquest match.
