Pretty disappointing that Next-Gen consoles can't crossplay together without PC.
But I'm happy console players won't have to deal with PC cheaters, even if it means no Xbox and PlayStation crossplay. Which I think is a mistake, given the 128 player map size in BF2042.
Then again this is DICE's first go at crossplay, so maybe DICE will add Xbox and PlayStation only crossplay in a future update.
So far Last-Gen consoles are getting the best crossplay experience, because they can crossplay together without PC. While Next-Gen customers are being charged $10 extra to buy BF2042 and lacks options for console only crossplay. 🤔
- @callmeliberator while both sides of have pro's, a skilled pc player always go further than a controller player, give the amount of movement that can be controlled simultainioulsy on PC.
whilst im not sure if we recieved official news regarding this topic - there should most definetely be the option to opt out of Cross-play. - @OskooI_007 while i understand some being dissappointed by this, though it also make sense in a way, considering there are people who'd rather play without CP entirely, some would like to play with PC excluded, and some dont mind the PC inclusion. though if you could exclude platforms from the CP we would see a Split in the community which doesnt seem vcery healthy for the game.
- PacNbowls5 years agoSeasoned Ace@callmeliberator In the recent post blog, they did confirm to turn off connecting to pc players, so now the console wars can now begin.
- @PacNbowls they did? :O

@SolaireSundancerFrom what I saw, but I could have missed read the post I was reading. Was also trying to say it would separate the console players from PC/keyboard users.
@PacNbowlsIt's going to happen. Reading the FAQ again, they state that cross play is in active development. So the Technical test will be testing the ability for PC and consoles to play with each other. No doubt that's just the start, and cross play functionality will continue to grow including only Xbox/PS.
- PacNbowls5 years agoSeasoned Ace@ArchAngeL-PCX I mean they have been asking if crossplay should be a thing in surveys since BF4 or BF1. So they should have gotten feedback
- @PacNbowls Yeah and Apex Legends already has console cross play. The only way you can play with PC is if a PC player invites you to their lobby. So for DICE not to realize why Apex and Warzone players don't want cross play with PC is baffling. That's why I think this is just the initial test of it. Either way, they'll get the message when the majority of console players opt out. It's not like both Series X and PS5 won't have more than enough players at launch.

Well console player mostly don't want to play with "high ego" PC players specially when they call them self "pC mAsteR rACe", no wonder that many peolple don't want to play with them when they got "advantages" on "performance" (60fps vs 240fps), they encounter more Cheater & Hacker, the ability to use different "settings" (graphic quality, lighting, shadow, effects/effect quality (fog), render distance/draw distance...) or the "shortcuts" (keyboard has more "button mapping" as a "Controller") . Sure skill/map knowledge/timing/ also matters but if both players are on the same "level" the PC player will mostly still have advantages while "console" player propably just get "Aim-Assist" where "PC" player will start to "talk" about how "unfair" it is.

Yes we can and we are thankfull for that but, it is awfull how we have do do it in the first place. Why not "You can always Opt-In on Crossplay or even better console only crossplay-filter for Current-Gen (XS&PS5) enabled by default". This would be much better. The benefits/positive effects of "Opt-In for Crossplay" are:
- EA/DICE doesn't split the "Core" playerbase of each Platform if we had all to Opt-In for crossplay instead of Opt-Out of Crossplay
- If we take the fictional count of Players 100.000 , 40.000 on PC, 30.000 on Xbox, 30.000 on Playstation then with Opt-In Crossplay each Plattform has there Core Playerbase this means 40.000 PC Players, 17.000 Xbox One/13.000 Xbox Series Players, 18.000 PS4 and 12.000 PS5 players.
- 30.000 Xbox = (17.000 Xbox One/ 13.000 Xbox Series) | 30.000 PS = 18.000 PS4 / 12.000 PS5)
- I had to split "Current Gen" (XS|PS5) (68.000) with "Old Gen" (X1|PS4) (42.000)
- This would also provide a safe playerbase outside of the "Prime time" with "Good Internet Connection" (Ping <100ms)
- Lobby building time is "default"
- For console and PC Player doesn't change much and Crossplay would be more an "Extra".
The negative Effects of "Opt-in for Crossplay" are:
- The Playerpool/Playerbase for "Crossplay" would be smaller, because people had to activate it.
- Player region with high playercount benefits more as regions with a lower playercount.
- Not so much benefits for player in regions with a low playercount
The benefits of "Opt-out of Crossplay" are:
- A huge Playerpool/Playerbase is available (fictional 65.000 Players of 100.000)
- Smaller lobby building times (because of more player availability)
- In the best case more Player with a "Good Internet Connection" because of a higher player availability in closer range (Ping <100ms)
- People who don't like or doesn't want crossplay can still opt-out.
- Player region with usually a low playercount get a boost on their playercount and find more and also find faster lobbies
The negative Effects of "Opt-out of Crossplay" are:
- Much smaller Playercount for crossplay "Off" lobbies which will only recover when player start to switch crossplay "Off" for different reasons
- Lobbies need more time to be builded
- A much higher chance to encounter "Bad Internet Connection" players in case of lack crossplay "Off" players
- Regions with low playercount will probably encount this more often as other regions
- less player availability outside of "prime time" for crossplay "Off" players
My solution would be, just to add a "Console Only" filter and set it "On" on console by "default", so PC players can not join console lobbies but console players can join PC lobbies if PC players have enabled crossplay .
The benefits of "Console only Crossplay-Filter" are:
- A higher Playerpool/Playerbase is available compared to the "Opt-In for Crossplay" option (fictional 25.000 Players of 100.000)
- Smaller lobby building times (because of more player availability)
- In the best case more Player with a "Good Internet Connection" because of a higher player availability in closer range (Ping <100ms)
- Player who want to play with their "PC" friends can still "Opt-In" and set Crossplay to full and player who don't like or doesn't want crossplay can still opt-out.
- Player region with usually a low playercount get a boost on their playercount and find more and also find faster lobbies
- PC Players also benefit of extra Players who wants to crossplay with their Plattform
- More player available even outsite of the "prime time"
The negative effects of "Console only Crossplay-Filter" are:
- The Playerpool/Playerbase for crossplay "Off" would be smaller, because people still have to opt-out.
- Player region with high playercount benefits more as regions with a lower playercount if they opt-out of "console only" or crossplay in general.
- EA/DICE doesn't split the "Core" playerbase of each Platform if we had all to Opt-In for crossplay instead of Opt-Out of Crossplay
