I'd say: it depends. Especially on how things proceed from now on. Maybe (very unlikely, but not impossible) they will turn the game around as they promised.
I guess we have to accept that the specialists are here to stay. Yes, they took a completely wrong turn when they decided to put them in. But I don't seem the getting removed. Let's hope they will get clustered and not every specialist will be able to use all gadgets for instance. This might be a compromise we can live with (at least I could accept this for this part of the series).
But let's say they give the existing maps a complete rework in order for them to be fun; by adding the much needed cover for instance. And make the required balance changes to make the current game playable without the constant need for a) uninterrupted cursing about vehicle dominance -- or b) alcohol. And increase the performance that my PC can run this as well as BF5, capped at 142fps at Ultra. And release the next 4 season passes with at least 4 maps each (like this was the usual amount of maps we got for a normal DLC if I remember correctly).
Then yes, I will most likely still purchase the next installment -- but I would DEFINITELY wait for the release and also for the first reviews of the final product are in. This much I can promise -- may God strike me dead if I would still dare to pre-order or getting hyped again. OK, I know, there is no such thing as God, but you get my point.
If, OTOH, they will kill off 2042 without at least trying to bring say 16 new maps (4 seasons with 4 maps each) and reworking the existing ones, then NO, definitely NO BF for me anymore.
And as you can see -- this only refers to BF titles, not games published by EA in general. I would still consider other games; I for instance enjoyed games like Unravel and Unravel 2, both are also published by EA. And if Unravel 3 would be released, then yes, I would most likely get this one as well and I know that I could count on this one being a good game and not the mess that we are dealing with when we are talking about BF2042. Being well over 40 years old, my gaming days are numbered and I don't get anything from the vain attempt of 'punishing' any publisher by not buying games -- IF they are good. Which is not something we can say for BF these days, unfortunately.
