With pretty much everything being broke or needing to be completely redesigned in this game. There's one thing this game have done completely right, maybe to an even bigger degree than Battlefield 2, in my opinion the last real Battlefield game. Defined by the fact that it was a trendsetter and not a trend chaser, the latter being something all "Battlefield" games have been since, with maybe two exceptions.
So the thing done right? THE MAPS ARE ACTUALLY BATTLEFIELD MAPS! Obviously I'm not buying a triple A game on launch, I haven't done so in 15 years. However in a month or so, knowing that I won't have to deal with the majority of the maps being corridor absolute shithows have me really excited. I think the fort map in Battlefield 1 actually gave me a clinical depression for a few days. Also if you are wondering if the idiots complaining they are too big have a point, they don't, the game is garbage so they're taking it out on everything. Having several capture points in a "zone" is there to facilitate the ADHD COD kiddies (and it's genius design btw), they're just choosing to not see it atm. Just like a biolab in Planetside 2. Sidenote, I'm seeing a lot of Planetside 2 influences, instead of prior Battlefield influences but maybe I'm imagining things.
So * KUDOS for finally making an effort on the one MAJOR gripe I've had for 17 years with my 3rd most played franchise (aka thousands of hours).
Now all we need to fix is;
- VOIP
- Sound
- Framerate
- UI (holy * the "UI", seriously)
- Balance guns
- *Removing the specialists and adding classes that can pick an ability instead (you did so well with Battlefield 2142). Just sell them as class skins.
- Adding loads more guns and an operational attachment-system (in Battlefield 3 you did so well)
- Scoreboard and most likely scoring rework (in Battlefield 1 you did so well),
- **Fix hit-detection
* Assault locked to Assault rifle, Ammo Crate, Armor, Proximity Grenade, Assault Ability (former specialist ability)
* Medic locked to SMG, Healing gadgets, Medic Ability (former specialist ability)
* Engineer locked to DMR, Repair and Launcher gadgets, Engineer Ability (former specialist ability)
* Recon locked to Sniper, Spawn Beacon, Stationary Defenses, SOFLAM, Recon Ability (former specialist ability)
* All classes get Shotguns and LMGs.
* Or something very similar. Very simple innit.
** I get I might dust a chopper now and then but we're back to Battlefield 1942 levels of having to lead stuff so far ahead you hit by actively missing atm. Sure getting 128 player netcode with server authoritative movement and hit-detection to work, to me, is so beyond genius it might as well be magic. BUT it actually have to work as well. You have had the best netcode on the market for years (after listening to us calling you out continuously, thanks for that), don't * that up for a * hastag #128playersWOW. You might think that impressive but Planetside 2 did 800 players on a map 10 years ago with "client authoritative netcode", warzone and PUBG did 120 players or what ever years ago, I don't know I hate BR games. 99% of people won't have a frakking clue what an achievement you have accomplished, they just see lag and think bad.
PS. More maps, bigger maps, more maps, bigger maps. Thank You. From a 20 year Battlefield fan. You have hunted the COD/HALO crowd for 15 years, I say spend the next 15 hunting the ARMA/SQUAD crowd. Who knows, you might end up making a real Battlefield.
