Movement speed compared to the other “modern setting” BF games is nearly the same:
Battlefield 2042: 6.5m/s | 7.25m/s
Battlefield 3/4: 6.5m/s | 7.15m/s
Battlefield Hardline: 6.75m/s
So, I think most of the so called “veterans” are used to this speed. You also need to consider the Field of View settings, depending how high and low these are you have a different perception of speed in game.
BF1/BF V which are also team based tactical action shooter in a fictional setting “inspired” by WW1 and WW2 which are only a little bit slower
BF1 / BG V Sprint speed = 6.035 m/s
Also, i don't think that battlefield in anyway wants to be realistic, it wants to deliver your own battlefield moment.
If you want more realism and more tactic you should maybe try Squad or Arma III.
it is always interesting to see that since the release there have been so many players here in the forum who wants that BF2042 should be like another game. Personally, I like it the way it is, only the balancing has to tackle DICE properly.
Also, Calling players kids don't make you mature mate, it is more the opposite 😉
@CountSeroYou forgot important factors. 1-Traversal speed is not listed. 2- there is no suppression in 2042.
And yet... 3- The success of other games in comparison to 2042. 4-Cross play/PC players.
Traversal speed is indeed too fast. Too bad it is necessary in this game.
The cross play between PC and console players would greatly benefit of suppression mechanics and speed limitations as the movement freedom on PC is much higher, you can run and strafe, on the joystick you may sacrifice speed to strafe and going from a 12 o'clock to 3 o'clock takes longer than from W to D (you can just release W). Reducing speed minimizes the difference between what you can do with a mouse and you left thumb. It doesn't solve any issue. It just minimizes the difference.
With suppression, a good team play and good positioning would be more rewarded than movement speed/mouse and keyboard. So brains would compensate console players and let them compete with rushing PC COD style players. Now, VS a smart and seasoned PC player, there is nothing you can do, as, even a slower movement would greatly help a PC sniper indeed. But still, that can be adjusted by reducing the precision of the sniper rifles at long and very long distance, and time to ads.
I ran a 2042 PORTAL server a few times after launch, with higher 1.1x bullet speed and movement at 0.9 x movement, 1.2 x drop damage. It felt just like the good old battlefields and it still could use the suppression. TTK felt adjusted. The lag issue was minimized, as the server could properly calculate position for both players. At that time you would see players floating when rushing from far, and that minimized that issue (in fact O had the impression that it immediately stopped happening).
With the lack of a decent aim assist, the result is missing kills because of higher movement speed. Bad aim assist. TTK is higher. HIT reg is ridiculously flawed., Add lag plus the fast movement to the equation, you let people get away with stuff when they should be normally dead if it was any other Battlefield. I've been there.
- 4 years ago@A-RAF2019 I set up wasd on stick and with the right curve it behaves the same as keyboard.

I remember when people complained non stop about supression being in previous battlefields now the opposite argument is being made 🤦♂️

@BabeyFace of course, everyone can express their opinion here but I can also bring facts.
Furthermore, exaggeration is not always a good way to have a discussion.
For Example, you are playing 50+ year FPS games? So, you started playing around 1970-1972? That doesn't really make you believable mate.
Since I am interested in such topics, I have done a little researched some time ago. The first FPS game that I came across was probably MIDI Maze on the Atari ST. But back in 1987 I was nine and still too young for having an Atari ST.
First, I wanted to post here a list of FPS games I played and I think influenced the genre as we know it today but hey I think here are many gamers that also started gaming in end 80s early 90s, so this is nothing special. I think we all have our memories.
Also, your Statement that FoV has nothing to do with your perception of speed. Maybe you will use your favourite search engine and look it up. The FoV has a huge impact of your personal perception of speed.
So, only kids play Battle Royal games? There are so many Battles Royal games which played by gaming veterans like you and me. Mate I played myself games Like Apex Legends, Ring of Elysium, PUBG, Hunt Showdown and a few more that I can’t remember in the moment. If you don’t like such games you don’t need to insult players that are enjoying it as "kids".
It seems to me that BF2042 is not matching with your preference and expectations.
Every BF hat differences you liked or not so in this case you can’t handle the movement speed in BF2042 that’s fine. But don’t expect that every game needs to be changed to your expectations.
Yes, BF1 and BF V had slower speeds but they also want to deliver a different Battlefield experience
But hey I stop here I don’t have the motivation to respond to the rest of your second post
I’m know 46 for years old, so I guess I’m part of the older minority here in the community and if games don’t fit my playstyle, I return them. If I can’t return them I don’t expect that the games have to change to my preferences. I learned a lesson of life.
I like BF2042 as it is (beside the bugs ) and I’m still be able to make kills and support my team to get easy into the top ten as an average gamer. (as in older BF games )
I would even say that BF2042 is more accessible than some BF games before
So have fun in Portal with your preferred preferences ^^- 4 years ago

Maybe tactical sprint is faster but regular sprint speed on pair with "good old BF" as some refer.
I went all the way and spent 1 minute to google it actually.
- 4 years ago@LlamaWithKatana i know i posted these values before imho these differences are marginal
but still BF 1 and BF V wants to delivery an total different experience then the modern variants like BF3/Bf4 or BF2042

@CountSeroBro, I think you are confusing me with the OP because of his icon...
I did give my opinion, but 100% of your answer was to his arguments.
@LlamaWithKatanaNot sure what you mean. How do you setup wasd on the controller?
@Psubondnot sure who complained about suppression mechanics. I was always a big fan. And I always saw on forums here and there a small amount of complaint. It doesn't compare with the complaints about movement on this game.
Suppression is a great solution for many things.
But by the way this game was delivered, with no destruction, no server browser, lots of performance issues, no guns, no map, no water for the hovercraft, no aim assist, no HUD transparency/size tunning, no thoughts given to nothing... I AM TEMPTED TO SAY THAT THEY DID NOT HAVE TIME, MONEY AND PEOPLE TO PUT SUPPRESSION MECHANICS IN. IF THEY DID, IT WOULD BE ONE MORE THING TO BREAK, AND ONE MORE THING TO FIX. Something partially done and performing poorly could be very well sitting on a file there, probably done and dropped. Ufortunately, I cannot make assumptions.
I CAN MAKE SURE STATEMENTS THOUGH: This game is the worst Battlefield ever and it has faster movement and no suppression. OTHER BFS WERE BETTER, with suppression, good TTK/TTD and hit reg, no traversal sprint (comparable movements). This is FACT.- 4 years ago@A-RAF2019 sorry mate, yes i was misslead by the icon....
