Hey mate, I managed to fix it (Or atleast patch it) by literally disabling my Sata controller in my bios every time I want to play 2042 (Unplugging sata drives worked as well). Its a massive pain in the arse but it does seem to work.
Ill go back and update my old posts as at the time I was too pissed off to actually go back to them and update it.
Hopefully this works for you as well mate, Its utterly ridiculous that this sort of issue even exists in 2042, an issue that's been around since launch at that.
you know what, i've got a collapsed raid array just sitting on some HDD's in my rig, it might actually have something to do with that. i unfortunately can't just disconnect my SATA drives as they're pretty deeply integrated with the software i use daily, but that broken raid array might be the cause of all my heartache. I'll give it a shot and report back. I can't be the only one stupid enough to run RAID 0 for the memes XD
