Battlefield 2042 PC freeze on startup

Hello, i have the same thing for over 2 months now. BF games (2042 and for 1 day bf6 beta did the same) At first i thought it was the anticheat. Uninstalled it and played bf6 beta for days.  After it ended i couldnt get on 2042. Both games freeze the whole pc on startup and all i can do is force shutdown by pressing the power button. Troubleshooting sometimes it is fixed but most of the time it happens. I have tried EVERYTHING. I even got a new motherboard, got my 5090 RMAed. Still bf2042 cannot start and freezes the PC. I cannot understand what the problem is or how to solve it. bf6 is 2 weeks away and i don't think i will be able to play since they share a lot of common things with 2042. Can any one help?

    Hi icy20TV
Sorry to hear that you are experiencing a problem.
Do you have any images or specific errors ?
Did you check if there were any errors in your event log after launching the game? This could help us better understand where the problem is coming from.

Go in "Windows logs" > "Application". If you see an error, send me a screenshot of it.  Make sure that the time matches the time when you launched the game. Errors are indicated by a red cross and sometimes a yellow sign.

    Let me know

Hello, the only 3 errors i found were all the same error. and it was yesterday when i was trying to start the game... of course i could not take a screenshot because all the pc did was black screen and then no signal at the monitor which turned off eventually and i had to force shut down the pc.

  • I too have had the same experience. New build with 13700k Z690 and RTX5070. Every single day one of many different problems including the hard crash with a black screen. I thought I had the answer so every day before I play I delete the BF2042 cache, remove and reinstall the EAAnticheat, do a repair on the game, and reboot the pc. Well I did that yesterday and it had all the stutters sluggishness in the first few minutes of play, totally unplayable. So I left the game and restarted the game and same thing. I tried once more after a game repair and then got the black screen crash. I rebooted and then it just magically worked perfect for the next 2 hours of play. Also when it acts up without crashing it sometimes gets where the keyboard acts like the W key stuck as when you let off of it you keep walking or crawling forwards. Sometimes like over 5 steps. Very annoying.

    Thank you,
    Try to repair EA's anti-cheat with "EAAntiCheat.Installer.exe" available here : C:\Program Files\EA\AC
Do you have the Nvidia app on your PC? If so, activate the Nvidia overlay.

    • If it continues to crash, have you tried deleting the “battlefield 2042” folder located in your documents?

    • Have you also tried creating a new user on your PC as an administrator and starting the game from there to see if it crashes?

    Let me know 😉

In fact i dont have nvidia app. i usually do the installation with nvcleaninstall and i remove most of the telemetries and other stuff that is not useful to me. I tried uninstalling the anticheat and after the launch of the game it reinstalls it. I havent tried to delete the settings folder from the documents. On the last suggestion u mean that i should log in as the administrator account or use an administrator account in windows (mine is an administrator account)?

Regarding the last suggestion, I would ask you to use another user who has administrator rights.  You can also try installing a previous update of your NVIDIA drivers to see if that solves your problem. Sometimes it works😄

Nothing seems to work. The game does NEVER start. No matter what I try. I did all you suggested and the problem is there always.

In fact I think i figured out the problem. I have my main monitor on monitor clone to a capture card. If i remove the hdmi to the capture card the game starts every time. If i then connect the hdmi and the cloning comes online the pc crashes again like usual. BUT if i have the hdmi disconnected and start the game and THEN plug in the HDMI the game continues to run and the screen capture is working like it should!!!
