Battlefield 2042 PS5 - VRR Support Request

Hi Battlefield developers and community,

Sony has announced by end of this week, a PS5 update will be released to support VRR (Variable Refresh Rate support for PS5 is rolling out this week – PlayStation.Blog).

Some game developers (including ones behind Deathloop) have announced they will patch their game to support PS5 VRR feature in the coming weeks.

Can I ask if Battlefield 2042 developers can look at including changes (for next game patch) to support PS5 VRR too?

Many Thanks.

Hey @bobbybrot I am not aware of any plans for this but should I hear anything will let you know.

  • Bonne question, ce serait effectivement un excellente nouvelle. De quoi réduire la latence, et augmenter un peu le Framerate moyen.

Hey @Bindou01 when posting on the English AHQ forums please post in English.

  • And it would be especially nice if they add an optional "Fidelity Mode" that targets 48-60fps (VRR range) but with higher graphical output.

  • @EA_Darko

VRR can also give us minor graphical option for next gen consoles:

The currently available mode can then be called "
balanced mode" which aims something in between performance and graphics. (Nothing has to be changed here as it is now on the PS5 and Series X. Based on our testing, a PC equivalent of HIGH settings are currently used on the PS5 and Series X).

    - For those who love graphics, a "Fidelity mode" can be used that targets a very slightly higher internal resolution and graphical fidelity targeting 45-60fps. Here some graphical settings such as shadow draw distance, terrain and undergrowth quality can set to PC equivalent to ULTRA (as the performance hit between High and ULTRA is only 10% on PC)

Just like all other PS5 and Series X titles we expect that player should have a choice how they want to experience their game. If other studios and games can do it, so can DICE with BF2042. PC player can do it as well, and since BF2042 is a cross-play title, next gen console payers should have minimal options as well.

Here are some distracting graphical problems with the game on the Series X and PS5:

    Shadow Pop-in within 15-20meter distance:

    MOVING FOWARD pops-in Shadows.

    Shadow Pop-in within 15-20meter distance:

    MOVING FOWARD pops-in Shadows.

    Foliage pop-in within 15meter range)

    MOVING FOWARD pops-in foliage LOD.

(Pictures are posted by a Redditor on a PS5 and Series X)

VRR can also give us options to play higher graphical output targeting lower frame rates (45-60fps). This is a industry standard on de next gen consoles, but probably too mush to ask from DICE 🥺

  • Hi @EA_Darko,

Congratulations on your team for the season 1 patch 1.0 release.

Is there any updates to the VRR request and or Battlefield developers looking to increase frame rate cap on PS5 (e.g. target 90fps with VRR)?

  • Hi there. I don't know much work would be required to add a 120hz/VRR toggle, but it would sure go a long way. I'm not expecting a full 120fps, but just being able to uncap the fps along with VRR would give major improvements to input lag and would personally make the game way more enjoyable. I'm a PC player recently moved over to console, and what I'm experiencing now is leagues behind what I used to have.
