A lot of people seem to have this problem still. It stopped working for me last night, and still not fixed. Game attempts to launch, then EA app starts and no game launches. Really annoying. Considering refunding this *.
Edit: this made me able to launch game:
Go into program files > Electronic arts > EA desktop > EA desktop. Right click on the EAdesktop.exe file and go into properties. Allow to run as administrator. Close the Ea app and launch the game.
Found the solution on reddit from a while back. Hope it works for more than me.
So i have tried everything in all these threads, but this fixed it for me!
It failed to launch on the first try after setting EAdesktop.exe to run as admin.
I ended the "EA background service" in taskmanager and the second launch was succesfull.
What i did before this is:
- verify game files a million times
- clear game cache C:\Users\*username*\Documents\Battlefield 2042\cache
- updating drivers and windows
- disabling firewall and antivirus (this did nothing so i wouldn't even bother)
- Reinstalling the EA app
It seems to me that EAdesktop.exe not running as admin was the culprit.
My fix was launch the game in windows 8 mode.

I've had same issues after the update. Finally, I was able to play this afternoon for several hours, no issues. But, as usual, once night rolls around, the same crash on PC when in the game for 5 minutes, crash to desktop, no error. I'm fairly convinced this is an issue on their back end.
