BF2042 Season 6 will not load after splash screen -possible solution

I've had this issue for months now. It would take 2 or 3 tries before the game would launch via the EA app. After installing the season 6 update, the game would just not launch at all. 

I contacted EA support. That was, frankly, an exercise in futility. Maybe they are overwhelmed? 

I did everything I could think of: reinstalled the game, the EA app, cleared the cache files, ran the exe as an admin, changed the ownership of the folders, clean install of the nvidia drivers, etc. I even updated my bios which, to my dismay, wiped out my undervolt profile...

Anyway, I understand that different things work for different people. This is what -sort of- worked for me:

When I went to add bf2042 as an exclusion under exploit protection, I noticed that that entry was already there. I had added bf2042.exe as an exclusion maybe a year ago to fixed another issue. I removed the entry from the exclusion list and that did it. In short, I did exactly the opposite of what had worked for the person that posted that link.

I hope this helps someone else with the same issue.
