So I ran into this same issue tonight - it feels like the EA app is behaving like a beta... not completely baked...
I noticed that I still had BF2042 listed in my download manager - it showed as Complete, but it was still there. I cleared that list on the download manager, and then selected the "Help>App Recovery>..." and whatever the cache option was. Once that was done, it would let me click on the download update button, and the update initiated.
Since the update completed, I've validated that I can play now.

i just re-installed Origin and now it works fine 🙂
