Cache MUST be moved out of Documents

I know others have mentioned this, but the location of cache under Documents is absolutely interfering with work being done on the PC at other times.  This of course is due to how OneDrive works and automatically syncs the Documents folder.

I can play at night, and then the next day when I'm doing work I need to share a One Drive file and have to wait a considerable amount of time while OneDrive still processes the cache from the night before.  "Hey, I can't send you that file right now because I played BF2042 last night" sounds pretty lame.

Excluding the files from backup still doesn't prevent them from being synced.

Why can't BF2042 use AppData like a good app should?

  • Your post piqued my curiosity about the blank, black screen issue I've been having. I paused OneDrive syncing and changed my settings to stop syncing My Documents (other than specific folders) and deleted the cache folder in the Web View of OneDrive. I don't want to get too excited, but I've played 3 matches so far without a crash.

@doubleome disable onedrive from booting with windows, use REVOUNINSTALLER.
If y did change setting ya need to reboot.

After gaming dont forget to enable onedrive again (if ya need backups).
    Again reboot required.

    Cheers
  • Thanks to this guide, aplied this as I've already had another problem with OneDrive syncing and Company of Heroes 2.

    I've also done this below:
    1. Open OneDrive
    2. Open Settings
    3. Click on Advanced Setup
    4. In the section Excluded file extensions, click the Exclude button
    5. add the file type .PcDx12 (for the cache)

Probably DICE choose to leave cache at my documents since the size of the folder gets bigger and bigger and doesn't clear by itself from time to time, that way user could do this. It is a shame but apparently that is the way 😢😞

    @FarewelI

Appreciate the tip as it sounds like it may be simple. It would be nice to install OneDrive and have it work again without it filling OneDrive cloud totally with cache files.

  • @sk1lld Discovered that the OneDrive file extension exclusion is bugged since October 2023. So now we are all hopeless.

I don't use OneDrive because I value my already very stunted privacy in today's world. The question is, have you tried linking the cache folder to, say, the LocalData folder or to another drive, or in the case of OneDrive, does this do nothing? I am thinking of the Mlink command in cmd.

  • @DMGG1994 Yep, already done that, but since another update on 2023, the OneDrive nows consider Symbolic Links or Junctions as folders and the sync occurs.

For SSD purposes I've relocate the entire 2042 documents folder to an 4TB HD.
