Disc not recognized

I have the disc version of BF 2042 on PS5. I was playing a match and got kicked due to internet issues on my end. After fixing the issue I tried to reload the game and instead was sent to the store page to purchase the game. I took the disc out and cleaned it to make sure it was reading properly. It seems it is not recognizing that I have the disc version and the disc is inserted. I uninstalled the game & reinstalled and it worked normal again. However, the next day I went to play and again the same issue was happening. Of note is that if I try to start the game without the disc in, I get the message to insert the disc, but when I do it sends me to the store page to purchase the game. I do NOT get the message that the disc is unreadable which leads me to believe the disc itself is not the issue.

Things I have tried to resolve it:

- Reinstalled game

- Rebuilt database

- I have an active PS plus membership

- System & game software is up to date

- Other disc games work fine

I'm really stumped by this and never heard or seen this issue before. Any help is appreciated.

  • Hi @0SugarJuice I'm not a PlayStation user, so might not be much help, but have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling from the disc to a removable drive?
  • I have not. My understanding is that PS5 games can't be stored on removable storage(only PS4 games can) on PS5. Could be wrong so I will look more into it tho, thanks for the tip!

@0SugarJuice You might be right about it - I was assuming it worked the same way as Xbox where you can install and move games to removable drives.

I'm basically wondering whether there's some drive corruption, but I could be miles off.
