This sucks. I am getting the same issue, can't play, crashes with the same error message. I have win 11 and GTX 2080Ti. I had this issue before and the only way to resolve it was to install older drivers from last fall, 528.02, anything newer and I would get the error.
Unfortunately, now they require the latest drivers, installed and of course, the GPU error is back.
THANKS>Awesome, good job folks requiring the latest drivers!

Setting FOV to 80 and terrain to high didn't work for me, even after rebooting the PC, same issue. Complete garbage game.

@Malle355 Cause youre cpu and memory communicate/transfer data directly, and the software <-- Bios -> isnt compatible with this hardware.
And of course is BF2042 using cpu very intensive and need youre mem also , 1 + 1 means any error , visible or not , could make weird things happen.
Check other topics from people with the weirdest cpu/gpu issues as example.
I would advise you to buy 2x 16gb , is the best for dual channel (is faster) mode , and make sure its mem in youre QVL for the best compatiblity with cpu, mem , bios (xmp settings/oc).
Buy the fastest (most hz) mem from this QVL and youre good to go !!
After switching memory (new set) do a complete new reinstall of youre windows also, and do a CMOS reset to make sure mem is running without any issues in/with cpu/bios settings !!!
Cheersps new mem iun qvl , cmos reset , load optimized defaults in bios if needed ,reinstall windows !!!

Please explain to me how buying new ram will solve a DXGI error? I'd really like to know how that connection is made. For me, the latest Nvidia drivers were at fault and so I downloaded drivers from last fall 528.02 which worked fine, the game would run stable. I went thru all iterations of Nvidia drivers climbing down there version latter until I found the ones which worked.
Now, however, I cannot run the game because DICE requires the latest drivers, so I installed the latest driver and once again, I cannot play the game, it crashes to desktop with the same error message that the OP started this thread with. So. I'm back to the same GPU issue, again GPU issue.
While someone may not have 'qualified' components, this error is not triggered by that and people should be careful in throwing money at issues they don't understand.

@skates15any hardware thats not in QVL from the brand/typ motherboard ya use is not tested (yet).
Still it could work flawles , but opposite is also possible !
Hardware not in QVL is NO quarantee that is work 100% ok !
There arent tests of it !
Do this:?
Memory+Motherboard+bios check part specs
Press Windows key + 'R' ,typ CMD
Press and hold down CTRL + SHIFT and press ENTER.

Solved for me running DX12: Delete your cache files as found in In your documents > Battlefield 2142 folder > Cache. What I noticed is that the manifest file did not have the same time stamp as the latest PcDx12 files. The PcDx12 files had a time stamp of 3/2, while the manifest had a time stamp of 2/28.
So, just conjecture, perhaps the manifest file did not get updated and was referring to the PcDx12 files with a time stamp of 2/28, not the latest ones with a time stamp of 3/2 that the game was attempting to use.
I first created a folder in the documents directory and cut/paste all of the files from the Cache folder into it, leaving the Cache folder blank.
Then I ran the game and it runs now, no crashing entire game (fingers crossed for the future).
I checked the Cache folder after exiting the app and all the files, including manifest and Data Base file were recreated all with the same time stamp. So, I don't think there is a need to save the old files since they are recreated, but you may want to anyway, just in case.
Hope this solves it for you, again I'm running Dx12, 2080Ti with Nvidia 531,18 and no Nvidia profiles or changes to the settings in Nvidia control panel.

@skates15 how did you run Bf2042 in DX11? The Games has no DX11 support. So you run all the time on DX12. What did you enable?
