DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG ("The GPU will not respond to more commands")

Battlefield 2042 crashes after 30 minutes at the lastest with the message:

DirectX function "GetDeviceRemovedReason"

DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG ("The GPU will not respond to more commands")

I would like to have a fix.

• I have the latest drivers for Windows 11 and GPU RTX 4080 installed.

• DXDiag and error message are attached

EDIT:

Thank you very much for answers.

I agree with RSX2400, switching Terrain-Quality to HIGH works for me.

Lowering Clock Speed of the GPU did not work.

Yup, putting everything to ultra except terrain, which I left at high, worked - just finished to consecutive rounds, with no problems. Also, my FOV is set to 80; per that reddit threat, that might make a difference.

  • У меня такая же проблема на RTX4090. Бывает каждые 10 минут вылетает, бывает и 5 часов без вылетов. Читаю вашу ветку форума и ищу ответы.

Had the same issue for few days. It's related to unstable overclocking or undervolting and nothing else, and most of modern GPUs come with some sort of factory OC profile applied, just a 15MHz more or less cane make a difference.

Lowering graphics settings, disabling DLSS, switching between DX11/DX12 etc. works because it's reducing or change the nature of stress on GPU.

I just altered my UV settings (not touched anything else) for my 3080 setup and didn't crash a single time since then.

Troubleshooting with BF is kind of annoying (as with any online game) so I used Metro Exodus Enhanced built in benchmark, run it on your native res Ultra WITH DLSS (it increases load on GPU), Tessellation and Hairworks, if you won't crash by 10 passes then you won't crash in BF

  • @Alyjen Lowering my clock and memory just a tad has made the difference. It's ridiculous that GPU's that have been out for years and a game that's been out for a year and a half can't just fix this issue instead of making people dumb down their high end hardware.
  • @skates15 how did you run Bf2042 in DX11? The Games has no DX11 support. So you run all the time on DX12. What did you enable?

@Jackal3210MHz, I can't go too low with voltage, it becomes unstable and I'd have to drop MHz really low.

I went from 850mV 1845MHz on core to 850mV 1830MHz, just this and it never crashed again. I tried some other combinations but this one is pretty decent as it stays cool enough.

Also Metro Enhanced stopped crashing, I do recommend using Metro Exodus Enhanced with RT & DLSS on to test for stability, if it works there it'll work in BF or other online games.
