@Rokebo73This has nothing to do with DS4windows , game ran fine for everyone up till last night.
@AntiCheatWard I don't see any updates via the EA launcher for BF 2042 , what exactly and how did you deploy a hotfix ?
It would've automatically downloaded the update the next time you launch the game while you see the Battlefield 2042 splash screen.

@AntiCheatWardI have been getting BSOD and/or CTD when starting BF2042 due to ExpressVPN running in the background. I don't know how a VPN could be used to cheat, but would you guys be able to whitelist VPN software so this stops happening? Or at the very least, could you detect if a VPN is actually in use before triggering your countermeasures? I haven't been using the VPN during gaming, but regardless, I have to stop all related background services and apps to avoid crashes.
Also, a much friendlier user experience would be a simple dialog box telling the user what unapproved app was detected. Forcefully restarting the whole machine is quite harsh and could cause loss of other user data.

@BeWary I'll take a look, it's possible that we're not directly causing the BSOD you experience on the machine, but a bad interaction between our apps. We already get data on all BSODs for users, but we filter out the ones that don't have our module loaded in the callstack for privacy reasons, but again, I'll check. - BeWary8 months agoSeasoned Vanguard
Thank you sir!

@BeWary Found your crash dumps. They may not have enough data for us to investigate as we can't find associated Windows symbols, but I'll get it assigned to our engineers for further investigation.
Edit: Can you update to the latest Windows version and see if it still happens? Whatever version you're on we can't find Windows symbols for, which is incredibly odd.
We also updated EA anticheat today, the latest version is 1.0.6832156.
With that updates in place, let me know if it continues happening.
Thanks!

Thanks @AntiCheatWard . I am up to date as far as Windows Update goes. I'm using Win 11 Home, 23H2.
I just ran BF2042 a few minutes ago, per your request. The ExpressVPN services were running in the background. The game was loading into a match, and as soon as the loading finished, the sound distorted, I got a blank screen, and the machine rebooted.
UPDATE
@AntiCheatWard I stopped my ExpressVPN services and ensured all background apps were stopped. Next I started up BF2042 again and now the game is quitting on me before it even gets to the menu with this error in the Windows App Event Log:
The description for Event ID 1 from source Application cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer.
If the event originated on another computer, the display information had to be saved with the event.
The following information was included with the event:
EAAntiCheatService
Failed signature validation for installer. (C:\Program Files\EA\AC/EAAntiCheat.Installer.exe)
The message resource is present but the message was not found in the message table_________________________________________________
It has done that twice in a row. Did the earlier machine crash corrupt my installation?

@BeWary Let's try this:
1) Go to and download the latest version of EA anticheat from https://cdn.eaanticheat.ac.ea.com/EAAntiCheat.Installer.exe
2) Once downloaded, right click the .exe and choose to run as admin.
3) In this UI, click Uninstall All
4) Close the installer, and open it again (I like to do this for registry editing safety reasons).
5) In the dropdown menu, select Battlefield 2042
6) Click on Install and once complete, close the installer
7) Try launching the game now and let me know how it goes. - iTails8 months agoSeasoned Rookie@AntiCheatWard This fixed the issue I had in this thread: https://answers.ea.com/t5/Technical-Issues/error-quot-start-your-game-from-the-distribution-platform-quot/td-p/14030282
"Start your game from the distribution platform [...]"
After verifying game files in Steam, and then running this (install), it works fine. Maybe not the resolution to OPs issue in this thread, but at least fixes it for that other issue I have. - BeWary8 months agoSeasoned Vanguard
Thanks @AntiCheatWard . I followed these steps, and the reinstall of the AC software was successful. After starting the game (with all ExpressVPN background apps closed and stopped), I was able to get into the game menu. However, as soon as I selected a mode to play, the game crashed to desktop. The App Event Log shows the following 4 errors related to the AC software at this time:
1) Activation context generation failed for "C:\Program Files\EA\AC\EAAntiCheat.Installer.exe".Error in manifest or policy file "C:\Program Files\EA\AC\EAAntiCheat.Installer.exe" on line 0. Invalid Xml syntax.
2) (5s later): Activation context generation failed for "C:\Program Files\EA\AC\EAAntiCheat.Installer.exe".Error in manifest or policy file "C:\Program Files\EA\AC\EAAntiCheat.Installer.exe" on line 0. Invalid Xml syntax.
3) (1s later): Activation context generation failed for "C:\Program Files\EA\AC\EAAntiCheat.Installer.exe".Error in manifest or policy file "C:\Program Files\EA\AC\EAAntiCheat.Installer.exe" on line 0. Invalid Xml syntax.
4) (15s later):
The description for Event ID 1 from source Application cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer.
If the event originated on another computer, the display information had to be saved with the event.
The following information was included with the event:
EAAntiCheatService
StartServiceCtrlDispatcher failed with error: 1063The message resource is present but the message was not found in the message table
So at the moment, I cannot play the game at all, even with all ExpressVPN apps closed/stopped.
Thanks for the help. 🙂

@AntiCheatWardHas the anti cheat software been fixed yet? Last I reported, I was getting manifest errors with the AC launching in the background, which prevented the game from starting. I tried playing the game again a few days ago and that error seemed to have been fixed. However, the game was performing like garbage because the AC detected something on my machine it didn't like (probably my ExpressVPN software, which I didn't close for this test). I closed the game before the AC blue-screened my computer.
It would sure be nice if AC played nice.
- Aronir2k6 months agoRising NoviceHello, I can confirm this. Since the anti-cheat update the DS4Windows program no longer works for me either. However, I can confirm this for Battlefield 1 only. I have already tested it without DS4Windows. It doesn't work and I followed all possible instructions. I have been playing Battlefield 1 with the Playstation 4 controller for 6 years and with the Playstation 5 DualSense controller since last year. If we should play the game with a Playstation controller in the future without the DS4Windows program, then I beg, also on behalf of the community, the developers to implement Playstation 4 + DualSense controller support in Battlefield 1 in addition to a Xbox controller support. As a next update. That would be really great and kind. ^^

I have updated Win11 to 24h2 on Saturday, since then i've experienced the same issue decribed on this thread and still haven't got any valid solution.
Before Win update i got the latest anti cheat package on EA app for BF1 (somewhere in middle of October) and previously in BF5.
They both works fine.....BF2042 not.
