Game causing CPU to overheat and crash computer upon launch.
I was trying to play Battlefield 2042 for the first yesterday time after the most recent update. I would get to the initial loading screen before the main menu, and then my PC would just turn off, as if a breaker tripped.
I tried a long list of potential fixes (repairing game in Origin, uninstalling, reinstalling, updating graphics drivers, rolling back drivers, closing all background programs, updating windows, some other random "fixes" which were definitely not related to this issue). I was able to get to the main menu after trying all of these, but the second I tried to load into a game, same thing happened. Complete system crash. I pulled up CPU/GPU diagnostics and watched them while booting up the game-- I noticed my CPU temp would begin to skyrocket once the game was launched, upwards of 110 C. Monitoring software had a label on the temp gauge saying "limit to 90 C". I'm assuming once the temp reaches a pre-defined critical point, the system shuts down to protect itself. I tried messing with BIOS settings to turn off overclocking, but couldn't find one particular setting that would accomplish that. Didn't want to mess around with it too much because I'm a bit of a noob and I don't want to brick the PC.
Any idea what could be causing this? Game ran just fine prior to updating, and none of my other games can replicate this issue (tried running RDR2, call of duty, insurgency all in 4k at ultra settings with no issues, so I'm not convinced it could be a power supply problem). Recommendations on how to fix would be highly welcome.
