Game Freezing and Random Times
Hi, Just recently started playing BF2042. Fresh install of Windows. No programs running in the background. My game randomly freezes, this has happened in the menus and during games. PC completely ...
I have an i9 10900k
radeon 6800xt
32gb ram
165hz 2k monitor
i was running the game with vertical sync enabled
With such a powerful CPU, there is unlikely to be a problem in the form that it does not perform with the game BF2042
But just out of curiosity, check the CPU load when playing BF2042.exe (only not through task manager - it shows nonsense 🙂 ,
Use a program that shows OSD while playing called Intel PresentMon (the only program that works in games with EA Anti Cheat xd) , or use AMD overlay, there it should also show CPU load while playing.
In nvidia, I solved the problem you described after by changing the power mode in the Nvidia driver settings (See screen 1.png). In the default mode i.e. Optimal Power Nvidia were badly synchronizing clocks and power consumption , so that when there was a sudden spike in action (which in games occurs practically all the time), the game would cut me.
After changing to Addaptive mode, everything works perfectly.
Check if you have any power modes on AMD at your place, if so, tinker with them, for starters try selecting maximum performance (clocks going non-stop at max clocks), if that has an effect then try other power modes

I saw a thread saying to install it on a different drive so I reinstalled the game on my m.2 drive that I usually only use for windows, all of my games are always on my backup SSD.
So far, no crashes...
You should not install games on the system C partition: , and should not fill up more than 50% of the SSD. The more full the drive is, the slower the transfers 🙂 . Some drives slow down a lot (become even slower than HDD), and some hardly feel it - it all depends on how the manufacturer designed the SSD.
HDDs are not affected by the % of space used, but the zone in which the data is located has an impact on the transfer; the screen below shows which zone has the highest transfer rate and which has the slowest read and write transfer rate.

I have BF2042 on HDD in the efficient transfer zone and upload before the battle starts 🙂 On the C: drive I have only the system and programs.
For me an SSD is an unnecessary expense and quite risky. With HDD you can easily recover data after a crash, with SSD the chance of recovery is 10% (I mean physical damage), only installing the system on SSD has its justification and specialized software such as Autodesk Inventor, where every second matters.
But with this power consumption mode in GPU justr try. I discovered it on a Geeforce GTX 1060 when it was shearing all my games :P

Well I had another crash this morning so that wasn't the issue.
I'm still stuck.
I've fixed the refresh rate to 120hz and reduced the graphics settings to medium.
Had 1 game at it was stable with no crashes.
I'm assuming it will probably freeze again. So annoying.
