Have to reset PC before playing or I get low FPS and strange textures/meshes

Every time I want to play I have to reboot my PC first in order for the game to run properly. I can run the game once for as long as I want to play and there will be no issues as long as it's after a fresh reboot. Good FPS, no stuttering, graphics look as they should, game plays perfectly fine and I can play for as long as I want without any issues. However, once I close the game and try open it to play again later, I'm met with a low framerate and weird "hazy" looking textures, which render the game unplayable. At that point, I'm forced to restart my PC and then the game works fine again until I close it and reopen it.

Seems like a shader issue maybe. I've tried deleting the shader cache to force the game to rebuild it, but it doesn't seem to help. I haven't seen anyone else with the same issue, either, so googling has led me nowhere. It's not a HUGE deal as I have my OS installed on a solid state drive and restarts are quick, but I'd really rather not have to keep restarting every time I want to play or leaving BF2042 open in the background between sessions to avoid having to restart. Any ideas? I'd also like to avoid reinstalling the game if possible as my ISP has a cap on data usage and I share internet with 3 other people.

  • Sounds like a memory issue to me. could be a memory leak or memory module(s) that's gone bad
