HDR doesn't work unless enabled in windows 10 settings prior to game launch

Are you using any software with an overlay? Yes
If yes, can you list them here? Geforce Experience
If you disable this software, does that have any effect? No
Which part of the game is the issue happening in? Game Menu
In which game menu were you when the bug occurred? Display Settings
Please select your region Europe
On which server did this happen? No specific server
When did this happen? (dd.mm.yy hh:mm) Since the launch of early access and ongoing today (11.21.21)
Summarize your bug The HDR option is locked and unavailable despite using an HDR-capable display on Windows 10. It only works if you enable HDR in windows settings prior to launching the game.
How often does the bug occur? Every time (100%)
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? 1) Launch the game with HDR disabled in window settings 2) The option to enable HDR in the display settings is locked 3) Exit the game and enable HDR in the windows settings 4) Launch the game and the option is now available 5) Exit the game, disable the HDR in windows and launch the game again 6) HDR is now locked again and not in use, despite visually being in the "ON" state in the settings
What happens when the bug occurs? The game doesn't think my monitor supports HDR unless it's enabled in the windows settings.
What should be happening instead? In prior games like Battlefield V or 1 it was able to detect my HDR monitor and automatically enable HDR on the display as a I launched the game, I expect the same to happen with 2042.

OS: Windows 10
Geforce game ready driver: 496.76
Monitor: LG 27'' UltraGear 27GN950 (Default windows drivers)

My setup also consists of two additional monitors, one of which is 144hz, 1440p G-sync and another which is 60hz 1440p. But the LG Ultragear is the only one that supports HDR and it is marked as the primary monitor in all windows settings and is also the monitor that Battlefield 2042 uses.

Under this current setup, the automatic detection and automatic toggling of HDR currently works just as it should in all other Frostbite games I have. Including Battlefield V, Battlefield 1, Mass Effect Andromeda and Starwards Battlefront II. It's something completely isolated to 2042 which does not happen with any of these other games.

  • @Panwellz same thing here with asus strix 4080. my amd gpus switch automatic to hdr output even in battlefield 2042. would be nice if nvidia could implement the same behaviour.
