when the 3.1 patch landed, my hit reg, was amazing. but with usual Dice programing, every game/day, it got worse and worse. so now its back to my usual horrible experience of taking 10+ rounds to kill, but dying in 3 or less. just about impossible to stay alive.
I'm on Series X with a consistent ping of 37ms. the majority of my deaths come from PC players with a sprinkle of other Xbox players. only been killed by a PS player twice since I started paying attention to these things. most deaths are clearly lag related from nonexistent netcode/lag comp.
another thing I've noticed quite often, even before 3.1, is my death seems to be from more than one person, but only one person shot me, at least from my perspective. not sure how to test it though.

The CMs here have asked us to send them videos of gameplay. I sure hope everybody is as it should ultimately lead to a faster fix for all of us, and yes, I have submitted some myself.

To make it short, i'm pretty sure the problem is on the crossplatform netcode.
I won't talk before season 2, game was quite a mess...
But in season 2, even if hit reg wasn't fantastic, the game was going on the good direction.
Since season 3 it is going down again. Weird deaths after reaching cover, feeling one shot killed at medium range (50-80m) by some weapons that shouldn't, etc, etc. Players feel cheated by the game too many times because of the responses they have on their screen.
My PC is not especially young... I7 7700 and GTX1070 for 1080p all low it works. And i have great internet, fiber optic no packet loss and ping at 12.
I'm sure i have no internet problem, and i see people with more advanced hardware with the same issue. And the same issue affects consoles too... It's not hardware related.
I'm seing a huge increase in the return of console vs PC war, how many "stop crossplatform" or "aim assist is broken from PC receiving end" subjects in this forum ?
We didn't had those problems in BF1 and BFV. Dice state the aim assist is at the same level as previous. Soo why players feel cheated ? And worse, both sides (controlers and M&K) feel cheated.
With a friend we laugh about the "Xbox cheaters" since season 3... Of course we don't believe they are cheating, but from the receiving end, the shots are miraculous and it seems to be insta death on some occasions (it's not consistent fortunatly). If Xbox players feel the same from PC players i understand the hate. Curiously i have far less issues with Playstation when killed, this increase my suspicions.
I think all those problems of TTK vs TTD, aim assist "too powerfull", "all PC are cheaters cut the crossplay", etc, etc, comes from the crossplatform netcode.
All players who played with crossplatform off are saying the same, the game is really better. I did it with friends (hard on PC most of the time matchmaking don't find a game, congrats Dice). But when we succeded, waow, it's night and day.
Try it by yourself you'll notice the difference with your first shoots.
I'm not a programmer, but i'm pretty sure this is where devs should look to solve all those problems.
- RaginSam3 years agoSeasoned Ace@l_Grand_Vizir_l Good points and observations. I definitely believe that there’s something specific about crossplay networking that’s making everything feel off.
I wouldn’t doubt that Microsoft makes developers implement some specific code or go through some sort of proprietary networking that bloats and delays connections to outside networks. That’s my conspiracy theory on it. It does feel like Xbox players take longer to update their damage taken to the server at times. - cso77773 years agoSeasoned Ace
@l_Grand_Vizir_lI don't agree on all of this.
BFV had awful "netcode" without crossplay. BFV had horrible TTD/TTK-problems from the beginning and it perhaps improved a little over time, but was never fixed.
2042 is worse than BFV no doubt, but no BF-game has been perfect. The issues in 2042 has been in all previous games (BF4s netcode is really horrible), but no doubt, in 2042 the problems has gotten worse than it was in BFV and BF1. - 3 years ago
I'm only mentioning BFV and BF1 because of the actual controversy about aim assist i mentioned. I think it's related with the subject here. People might interpret badly a netcode issue (we'll see if netcode is fixed). What are you talking about ?
Never said we had perfect netcode on a previous BF. I'm pointing that shutting down crossplay change the game for consoles and PC users and it looks like a huge hint for me. We didn't see such a difference in previous tittles.
We both point netcode issue.
I don't see where we disagree...
- BFB-Praetorian3 years agoSeasoned VeteranOn PS5 I've been taking advantage of the free play to try out the last gen version and even with crossplay on between PS/XB the TTK/TTD experience is substantially better than current gen, whether that be with crossplay on or PS5 only.
A possible band aid would be to give 2042 a server browser. I still play BF1 & V, but the experience with Ping usually in the low 20's Europe is noticeably substandard. However I found that by playing in NA servers with a Ping in the low 80's a sweet spot can be achieved. - ATFGunr3 years agoLegend@l_Grand_Vizir_l Not being a programmer either, I think you’ve got some good points. I’ve been watching the network bar and in games where the time nudge is fluctuating, I lose a lot (not to mention lag the heck out). When the TN is low, I can go 29-6. Medium I’ll go 18-16, bad I’ll go 9-20. It’s a crap shoot, never know what I’ll get. I have started quitting in search of that elusive “perfect server”. Unfortunately I can’t save it and go back to it as we don’t get a server browser. Biggest mistake of the game.

Hey all,
I like the chatting back and forward in this thread, it is very active! However, if you're able to do so that is, please also provide a video or something that shows these Hit Reg issues or TTK vs TTD inconsistency. It is very hard to determine from a distance if it could be TN-related or another network-related issue (which causes TTK vs TTD inconsistency in most cases). Hence a video with the in-game network graph enabled should show/highlight some of this.
I also saw some questions as to why I am (or we are) asking for some gameplay footage with the in-game network graph enabled.
The main reason for this is that the in-game network graph has evolved quite a bit since it first got introduced a few Battlefield's back. It shows us a lot of network-related info about the specific network situation of the player, at that time. This helps us to determine if the issue could be server side, client side, or if it could have something to do with their (the player's) hardware or network situation for example. (All network graph info is Non-Personally Identifiable Information.)
These kinds of videos help the teams tremendously in their investigation, as it is impossible to test this in their own controlled environment. Real-world scenarios are always different.
Little update; I am actually going to move this thread to the Tech Issues boards for visibility.
