If not BSOD, then DirectX Error and crash to desktop.

Been having this issue since the update to BF 2042, definitely looks like something is acting upset, pretty sure it has something to do with the fact that I had to use DDU to reinstall drivers for my 4090, also had to clone the drive to get it to work on an SSD, so I don't know how many levels of crap I'm in over my head with this.

Tried repair, reinstall, and complete removal of all EA apps and games through steam and without. been searching for an answer for a while, couldn't find anything. Also recently updated to a clean install of the most recent game ready driver. Other games work fine, but I still get BSOD when the game doesn't quit to desktop. Gotta be some way to clear this issue or point EA app and game in the right direction.

  • Yeah this is not that simple of a solution, I will list the troubleshooting I've done in regards to 2042.

Reinstalled game and EA app twice.

Completely removed all mention of EA app/2042/and Origin from all drives.

DDU to remove game ready drivers provided with Nvidia Experience and reinstalled Game Ready Driver with a clean installation.

    Mem test

    SFC Scan

    Updated BIOS

    Updated Windows

Updated all drivers related to hardware and software

Cloned OS drive and moved the windows installation to a different drive.

Backed up registry and manipulated Cryptography settings in microsoft before having to do a system restore.

    Ran a Benchmark on 4090,

    Ran a Benchmark on 13900K

    Turned off XMP

Turned on debug mode for 4090

Removed and/or turned off all game overlays.

    Made exceptions with all anti-virus

    Disabled all anti-virus

    Ran as administrator

    Updated DirectX, Direct X3D, x86/x64

    Deleted Local AppData

    Reinstalled Microsoft C++

When I say I've tried most if not all solutions just to play this one game, I'm being serious. There are some things I haven't done sure. But the more things I try the less willing I am to care. Every other game I play works flawlessly, why would I continue to put my computer through BSOD after BSOD or just wait for this game to crash to desktop just so I can play a game filled with bots? Maybe this will get the attention of someone who actually does something at EA, or DICE and they'll make the decision not to be half-assed when it comes to development the next time around and actually implement proper PC related optimization that doesn't break their game every few months when a driver comes out.

  • i am having the same problem. also it was there in previous season but some how after a few crashes testures were rendering and i could be able to play. this season it is not even progressing by crashes...

Yeah it's kind of obvious that their implementation of the game on PC systems especially is crude at best.

Been reading how people with higher spec machines have been having to clock down their CPU and GPU just to play the game, as well as other similar solutions that involve regedit that I'm not willing to do just to play a piece of software that has for all intents and purposes done more harm than good by being on my machine.

Let me know once EA and or DICE fix the game, the installation, the process that the hardware and the software interact or all of the above, I know nothing is hard broke on my side. So you can keep your hard broke piece of * game.

Yes i had to clock down also , in the past.
But they fixed some stuff (and a good bios flash) did fix it for me.
    No more clock down 🙂

But still black screen, random times, then each mao, then i can play for some hours, weird hahaha.

PS AMD / ASROCK system do got issues with armoury / ai suite , fan control, rgb control software/driver (dll) issues , could give a BSOD.
Work around is to disable those services from booting with windos !

    Cheers

  • I've finally got it working by installing it on the C drive instead of a different drive? Which is one of the most weird solutions I've ever seen.

It still crashes to desktop on occasion. There was one blue-screen of death after the switch of drives but at this point the game plays for enough time for me to play through a series of games 2-3 usually at most before it dies.

I guess that's the solution unless anyone else has anything else.

  • I was having all the issues I am having now when I completely uninstalled Armoury Crate and the associated software when troubleshooting the BIOS issue. I had to flash the BIOS but it didn't fix anything at the time so instead of living without RGB and Fan control I ended up settling on reinstalling it. Since it doesn't cause crashes on any other game and I don't play BF2042 that much.

And haven't you got the idea that a Windows update might have been faulty and that's why you're having problems with the game? I personally disable automatic updates in Windows 10 and manually install only the ones I read are ok, and since Windows 11 is here I don't update my system at all, because I know from experience that s Windows is improved and fixed until a newer Windows is released, then older Windows (currently Windows 10) is gradually slowed down in the name of the latest Windows 11 (to make the propaganda of the success of the new Windows work better and encourage people to move to the latest Windows , I have noticed the same thing with Android or Graphics drivers) I have had a version of Windows for over 1.5 years without an update and everything works ok

Why do I mention this? When I was studying, there was a case where everyone (those who had auto update only) suddenly stopped working CAD programs like Inventor because of a faulty patch. Maybe that's also the reason you're having problems with BF2042 now? I'm not defending EA, but Windows plays tricks too. As you've gone to such lengths with everything you listed in post #3, why not try downloading the latest Windows Iso image, install it from scratch (format the system partition, then install Windows) and disable auto update with Windows Update Blocker V 1.6 or newer and see if everything is ok ? also download the motherboard and graphics drivers from the manufacturer's website and save them on some other partition than the C partition, so that after the format you can install them offline (the manufacturer's drivers are better than those from Win Update, which are supposedly also drivers from the manufacturer :P)

I used to clone Windows on my old PC, where I didn't want to format Windows 10 on HDD & install Windows on SSD so I cloned it to an SSD and hid the C partition on the HDD (so that the two Windows 10's wouldn't see each other, because as you know, they 'bite' each other and then repair each other via check disc. The NTFS partition has a lot of filesystem files distribution and Windows itself a lot of boot time files with the beginning in the name of $, which do not necessarily clone (copy) correctly , what I'm getting at in this post, and that is that after cloning Windows I had various errors in the form of blue screens, because as I mentioned, NTFS files strictly, and Windows files (which Windows itself has the right to access) don't clone 100% correctly, Windows will of course boot beautifully to the desktop etc, but with heavier loads I like to get a blue screen because some driver malfunctions etc. After formatting 2 partitions ( System partition on HDD and cloned system partition on SSD) and a clean install of Windows and drivers, the old 2010 PC is back to normal. Also with this cloning in my opinion you just made yourself system stability problems. I don't know at all where the idea of cloning Windows to solve a gaming problem came from. It's cool that you've read a ton of forums to solve the problem, but in my opinion you've just created more problems with Windows after this cloning.

English isn't my 1st language, if are some errors then sorry.

@RaveFlyz Ya need the UNINSTALL TOOL from asus/amd, to get rid of those dll files, mentioned in registry.
There is also topic how to disable those dll files from loading , by renaming them, registry edits ect ect ect.

    Cheers
  • Just e-mail me when you update the game again and it starts working thanks EA!
