IN-GAME AUDIO IS BROKEN
Product: Battlefield 2042 Platform:PlayStation 5 Digital Edition Please specify your platform model. Sony PlayStation 5 Digital Edition Are you using any software with an overlay? No Which part o...
Yes, the same situation on ps5. I checked xbox's sound and it is compared to bfv, meaning it is so good. Also hoped they will fix this after beta, but unfortunatly not.
I use Samsung AKG earphones, and as @ilFrenk said in bfv sound is amazing, compared to 2042. Thats not a problem with headphones. I can record a video and sound will be flat on all devices i will listen. So if you need, I can do this and compare to bfv audio, you will definetly hear the difference @EA_Atic
@EA_AticHere is a lot of guy on reddit who also have this feeling :

Here is a real issue with the sound.
Please bring Andreas Almström back to fix it 😢
Hello @EA_Atic ,
official PS5 headset and Astro - they are perfectly fine with Battlefield 4 and V but in 2042 something is wrong software side.
I want to point out that 3D settings for headset in PS5 system software are turned OFF in both scenarios.
In 2042 you can hear footsteps coming from everywhere, you can’t tell from where and, close or far, they sound exactly the same volume wise.
Explosions are sometime missing too
It can be easily tested, try any headset with earlier Battlefields and then switch to 2042, it’s night and day.
Something in the mixing room went wrong i believe, maybe they had to change studio during pandemic, i don’t know, but i’m sure it’s not the way it was intended to be (because it’s so much worse than previous titles).
Other than that the game is already stellar to me, glad i bought it 🙂
The sound is bad in 2042. plis fix it. Sound is key in BF
Sound is really bad in this game. I am a long time Battlefield lover since BC2 and this is just so disappointing. This is my first post whinging about a game but I had to log in and say something as this is terrible. I have a Razer Megalodon 7.1 Headset which is awesome in every other BF game so it's not my PC or Headset. The mixing is bad in this game, muffled and low flat volume. I have my headset up full noise and normally it would be too loud in a BF game but not this one. I can hear footsteps and have a general idea of where they are but I am more concerned about the lack of atmosphere and noise from everything. I hope DICE will sort this out soon. I had so much hype and hope for this game but having sound this bad goes against everything I loved about DICE in the past. It's a sad day when I have pre ordered Ultimate to play early and have only put 5 hours in since launch...
can you all try NIGHT MODE in audio settings and see if it sounds a bit better for you please? That may work as a temporary fix, just until the patch (it’s still needed).
I have to say that it’s generally a bit clearer to my ears (but footsteps are still a huge mess).
Please check and report back, it may be a headstart for fixing it (again, i believe it’s a mixing problem in general, but meanwhile…)
@ilFrenkI havent tried night mode, but I turned off 3d audio in ps5 settings. Became better, although sound still feels as bad-quality, it became more surrounded and less flat
Edit: played 1 round with night mode, almost no improvement, maybe because I use just a stereo earphones, with only 2 channels.
So I recommend you to disable 3d audio on ps5, it will make your audio 100% more surround
I tried Night mode but can't really tell much difference, I remember with all other BF titles you could tell the difference between the modes easy. War Tapes was very loud and sometimes too much noise going on that I ended up mostly using surround in headset mode. I have Razer Megalodon 7.1 headset and its awesome, all other BF titles sound great with these.
@EA_Atic So, has the team aknowledged the issue ? Because it is pretty punishing to play in these conditions. For info, I am on PC and I am using the Logitech G Pro X Wireless.
Changing the audio mode in the ingame settings does not improve anything.
I am avaialable to provide further information if needed.
On PC this problem can be fixed by procedure:
It's a very annoying thing.
I am gamedev, I don't know if i am right but i feel like the surround sound is based of the pelvis of the character and not to the camera, it is why when we are in 3rd person view in vehicles the location of sounds are not accurate.
And when we are in first person view sometimes the camera is not facing to the same direction to the pelvis.
The surround MUST be based of the camera and not the pelvis.
@Xeinaemm Unfortunately, that does not work for me.
Can we have at least a confirmation that our issue has been taken into account ??
This needs to be addressed ASAP as it is very impairing... Cannot even hear an helicopter incoming...
Playing with 2 bowls on my ears would give the same result...
I figured out the problem(described here:WH-1000XM3 can only use Stereo OR Hands-Free but NOT BOTH over Bluetooth | Why high-end wireless headphones with headset functionality are UNUSABLE on Windows 10 : sony (reddit.com) ).
The problem itself is related to drivers inside headphones. For example, Windows sucks in context switching of input & output so it's resulting in poor quality of sound because of switching to microphone settings. Most of the problem is related to the microphone, BF2042 uses it, and the microphone driver takes precedence. On other hand iPhone & android doing it well and so on.
What headrests should we use? Mine sound great on every other battlefield title
The sound is really bad, it was actually the first thing i noticed about the game.
It feels very flat. The Counter-Strike Beta from day 1 had better directional sound. That was 22 years ago.
Try finding a helicopter flying over your head, you'll have no idea where it is. It's frustrating.
