I've put over 30 hours into this game already. I'm level 41 I believe in game. I have played nothing but conquest matches thus far. I want to cover an issue that many people have touched on or suggested, and that is the fact that the game appears to have a nasty memory leak that shows up, at least for me, after a few hours of continuous play. I have not seen any official sources acknowledge or speak about investigating this issue however. I would think they would most certainly be aware of it though just from internal testing, but I decided to cover the issue myself here just in case. First of all a little about my hardware:
I've been building and overclocking my own PC for over 25 years now, so this is a system I built myself and it is somewhat aggressively overclocked, but thoroughly stress tested and stable.I am what you may call an advanced computer enthusiast
Intel i7 9700k @5.1ghz water cooled.
32GB DDR4 @4000mhz 16-17-17-38 timings (Samsung b-die)
MSI MEG Z390 ACE with the latest BIOS (resizable BAR enabled)
Samsung 980pro m.2 SSD drive (where the game is installed)
Asus Rog Strixx RTX 3090 Overclocked (2025mhz core clock average while playing bf2042)
3440x1440 120hz Ultrawide GSYNC monitor.
Framerate is left uncapped in bf2042.
When I first launch the game and sit at the conquest menu screen, I sit at 154 FPS. In game, FPS of course bounces around a lot depending on map, location, and what's currently going on, but I typically am in the 100-120 FPS range on average. That is, until I get about 5, 6, or 7 matches in to a play session. It seems random when it starts to happen, but eventually I start to notice RAM utilization climbing from one match to the next. Eventually the game will consume nearly all of my 32GB of system memory, even just sitting at the menu after a match. When this occurs, I also always see a big decrease in average framerate both in game, and in just sitting at the menu screen idle. My normal 154 FPS at the menu Drops to ~110FPS In game, my 100-120FPS average drops to 75-95FPS. Ive tested this thoroughly - while the FPS can swing around a lot in this game, These drops are very noticeable, and controlled. For example, on the same map, at the same spot, staring at the same blank wall in the initial spawn for example. The only difference being time. One from the first game or 2 of the day, the other from game 7 or 8. The degradation is pretty substantial, it is reproducible every day, just keep playing match after match and it eventually gets there. Once the game gets into this poor state nothing fixes it aside from restarting the game. As soon as I restart Im right back to 154FPS at the menu and back to snappy performance and 120FPS in game.
In my nearly 40 hours of playtime I have only had a single crash in the game, and it was a straight crash to desktop with no error or message and it was after a very long play session. I suspect the system just ran out of memory and crashed, but I wasnt monitoring my RAM usage in that particular instance so Im not sure. The game celearly is leaking memory though.
