Issues Linking Controller on PC

I purchased 2042 on origin back when the game was first released and had nothing but issues. I actually did not play a game until last night because I could not connect my controller. I have tried adding the game as a non steam game and turning on my xbox controller in steam and still nothing. Does anyone have a fix because this is truly irritating.
