Have you tried a game repair/file verification.

In Origin in game library right click BF2042 and select repair from menu and let it run.

In Steam select game library and right click BF2042 and select verify game files and let it run.

Hopefully this will fix it.

I have done this before I reseted my whole system and it didn't fix it. Now I repaired it again in the EA App and I will give feedback if the problem is solved.
