Not sure what issue is. All device drivers are updated. Windows is updated.
I try playing bf2042 and I try starting it through steam and origin and EA. Every time I get "failed to start ( 2 )" it pops up with the bf loading screen (small box) and as soon as the loading bar completes it gives that error.
I also tried playing Apex and got the same error. All my system reqs are up fine for the game. I've played both games in the past. I tried deleting and reinstalling everything 1 at a time.
Please help!
It seems like the Webroot anti-virus software may be causing this.
Disable that software temporarily and check if you can then play, thanks.

That is a workaround at best. Ive used webroot and played other games with EAC for years without issue. The real question that needs to he addressed is why is the 2042 implementation of EAC so prone to issues? I play hell let loose and squad and neither one has ever once had an issue with EAC and I have been using webroot since about 2016.

I concur and same here. I been using Webroot flawlessly for years now on everything from Insurgency sandstorm to BF4 and 5.

EAC when it updates 100% can and will conflict with SecureAnywhere. I have also been using that AV software for years without issues. Then had exactly this issue with a conflict with an update of Back4Blood which included an updated EAC. Webroot support sent me a new build which solved the problem. We have exactly the same issue here. It doesn't matter if you didn't have issues before. It seems any game that includes the newest version of EAC will cause that game to not run if SecureAnywhere is installed. I have already contacted Webroot.
- 4 years ago@MasterBlaster73 I don't use SecureAnywhere or Webroot and still facing the issue just now after the latest update. Back4Blood runs fine for me. I'm lost

Let me get this strait. I have used Webroot for years with no issues. Had no issues during the 2042 beta and have had no issues starting the game until the 9 Dec 2021 update. Now all of the sudden Webroot is an issue?
Hearing I should reinstall Windows or disabling my anti virus should not become the go to answer to fix this problem.
- MasterBlaster734 years agoRising Traveler@DeathSquared1 Read my posts. I already opened a ticket with Webroot just like I did when EAC stopped B4B from working, and they will release an update just like they did for B4B and BF2042 will run again. They will send me the build and I will run it and confirm it works and all Webroot users will get it immediately.
- 4 years ago@EA_Barry I disabled webroot and I still get that error. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the game. I have made sure my GPU drivers are up to date. Any thoughts? The game was working yesterday. I even tried the repair game option in origin and that didn't work. Do you know if we can get our money back if this issue isn't fixed?
Some services still persist with webroot shut down (look in services.msc). Sounds like reinstall is the only viable option at the moment.
- 4 years ago@crnhlio a reinstall of the game, you mean?
been wondering the same thing. tried getting a refund a bunch of times but to no avail

Turning off Webroot does not resolve this issue... others with this issue have resolved it by uninstalling which is straight up unacceptable for a AAA title with as much * going wrong to now require me to remove a computer protection just to play.
THIS IS UTTERLY AND COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE !! ASK US TO MAKE OUR PC's VULNERABLE SO WE CAN PLAY A GAME.
CLEAN UP YOUR MESS, IT WORKED BEFORE TODAY !! YOU HAVE AN ANTI CHEAT THAT ONLY PREVENTS PEOPLE FROM PLAYING NOW !!

I got it to work by completely uninstalling webroot.

@Tomkicker157Congrats

Its not EA actually, as I thought the same thing, Webroot was clocking everything on my brand new comp. webroot is what the company that built my system uses. It is unfortunate that it blocks so much. /sadface

I uninstalled webroot, and now the game is working. That is actually unacceptable that people have to uninstall their AV just to play a game. Get this fixed quick or people will start uninstalling the game.

Yea, not going to disable my anti-virus software because of an update from EA that is preventing us from launching the game. Worked just fine before the latest update, try again.
Also, I have allowed access in Webroot for the game and origin. Worked fine before, works fine with Battlefront 2 and other games I have in Origin.
Maybe escalate this issue for resolution, we paid for a product use that and EA needs to roll back the update if anything until this is figured out.
- MasterBlaster734 years agoRising Traveler@fidstang You will be wasting your time trying to resolve this through EA. I have tried to contact Easy A/V and they do not respond. Webroot will fix it like they did before. If doesn't matter if your other games work or if BF2042 worked before the update. SecureAnywhere is stopping the new version of EAC from launching which stops BF2042 from launching. I will not uninstall My A/V either. I will wait for the fix.

Probably my first post here in years. I'm having the same issue. I've been searching the web for hours and I have tried everything. Including disabling Webroot. That did not fix the problem. I am not going to uninstall Webroot. That is just next level stupidity. I have been using Webroot for 20+ years and I have played a TON of BF (and other games) with no issues.
I will be contacting Webroot as well and I already have a ticket open with EA.
This is beyond stupidity on EA's part to push out a patch that isn't tested beyond a micro-bubble of their internal team.

Doesn't work for this issue. Disabling Webroot that is. I am not sure about uninstalling Webroot, I refuse to do that.
Uninstalling is the only way to get the game work at this time unfortunately. All other ways of trying to get around it do not work. Hope Webroot is fast with an update. I contacted Webroot and got no response in my ticket.
Edit: Webroot did end up replying shortly around when I posted this, had me download some logging software and it uploads automaticcaly to their server to help get a fix. They said that there have been numerous reports and that they are aware.

You have 2 options,
1) Completely uninstall SecureAnywhere.
2) Wait for the Webroot patch.

Any chance we can get a further update on this issue @EA_Barry ? Haven't been able to launch the game since the Dec. 9 update and I also have Webroot on my system. Have done every other troubleshooting method to no avail except for uninstalling my av. Already reached out to EA support and after spending like 50 minutes in a chat I was told the team was aware of the issue, and to "await a response via our social channels".
Really should not have to uninstall my virus protection software in order to play a game that didn't have that issue 3 days ago. C'mon EA.

Tried this, it doesn't work even after uninstalling it completely.

This is so ridiculous. I’d be curious to see what they finally do about it. You pay $60-$100+ on a game and you can’t play the thing. For a AAA company this is pitiful. Is it all about the money or do they actually care about putting out a good product. The trend since BF4 has been all downhill. I took a break from this game for some years and started playing COD, Valorant, and some others. I was hoping this game was going to reignite my love for Battlefield…. I was wrong. I hope they clear this issue up soon becuase I didn’t spend $100 to not even be able to load the game, AV or not.

With all this going on with EA titles I think it is time to check out Assassins Creed Odyssey. I just finished Assassins Creed Origins and it was excellent. It actually had a story. What a novel idea.

Webroot has been disable and still having the same issue. All the files have been repaired and also game has been reinstalled. This is not helping.
- MasterBlaster734 years agoRising Traveler
@GhostSafinNote the posts say to completely uninstall SecureAnywhere. Did you do that?
@GhostSafin@Whitefeather01Bad news is in that, to this very moment, there is the only one way for us (those who itching up to keep playing right away) we've ought to rid off of the Webroot before long. Simple disabling protection options doesn't do a trick unfortunately. At least we should wait till they'll fix the damn bug. Personally me I've spent $109 for the ultimate edition, haven't earned a right upon the honest technical assistance regarding the 3rd party soft installed in my windoze which may cause the conflict. Just found myself wretchedly got to digging forums in finding even a vague solution. While seeing the other happy guys having fun firing at each other, just as if it's nothing! Moreover now seeing the grave prices dumping in selling BF2042, feeling myself completely fooled. There is nothing much to add to their notoriety EA is a blivit, indeed pays little heed to the valuable Customers and their grievances, overtly taking us as for a slow-witted people.

How can you tell people it's an issue with their anti virus? We all know it was working fine until this latest update, so its a problem with battlefield! Then you tell people to uninstall their antivirus software!!!! are you kidding me right now!?!?! i hope people see how this company is treating its fan base after spending all this money on already broken game, and have the company tell the people just delete what's keeping your pc safe in order to play our game! it doesn't work like that. I'll never buy anything that has come from EA again, this company has falling off and began to take advantage of it's player base.
When I contacted Webroot they said it was an issue on their end with EAC. They asked me to download their logging software to get some logs uploaded to their database to expedite and diagnosis and repair of the issue that you are experiencing. I assume they are not working on the weekends so I will probably;y hear back early in the week.
