Shutting down protection of Webroot will not fix this. If you run procmon after WSA is "shut down" you will still see the WRCoreServices64.exe scanning the files at the time the game is launched. This is why only a full uninstall will allow the game to run.
I looked at the Webroot logs but see nothing to indicate anything is blocked, but it obviously is. If I uninstall WSA, the game launches.
add this folder to exception
C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\Battlefield 2042\EasyAntiCheat
- 5 years ago@Danno_USMC Did this work for you or is this just another suggestion?
- DravinClaw5 years agoNew Rookie@Danno_USMC This didn't work for me

this is working. this is what i added to my webroot file allow list. i have verified with this with several users that had this as well as me. We run corporate Webroot but they should act the same
C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\Battlefield 2042\bf2042.exe
C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\Battlefield 2042\EasyAntiCheat\EasyAntiCheat_Setup.exe
C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\Battlefield 2042\BF2042_launcher.exe

i attached a pic and the 3 lines i added. so 1 of those 3 is making it work. it should be the anti-cheat one causing the issue because when the game tries to start, thats what you see running before ERROR 🏈. maybe you dont have the right exe and file path in webroot. in business webroot cloud the file name is not on the same section as the path
- 5 years ago
This hasn't worked in the past, and even after reinstalling Webroot fresh, it still doesn't work. I'm pretty sure most with the non-business edition of Webroot are going to be having the same problem. If the problem were that simple of a fix for all of us, there wouldn't be this many people waiting for an official fix from Webroot.
They do not act the same.
- 5 years ago@Danno_USMC I had tried this previously and tried it again with no luck. Although it is not allowing me to add \bf2042.exe to the allow/block files list with no explanation. I've got it in the the allowed scripts though
- 5 years ago
I didnt mess with the scripts. on my side of the cloud console you set the path to the .exe in path, then the filename in the filename section. i added the 3 paths and 3 filenames. as soon as i did that, it loaded and played all night. i have been down since that patch too. this is a screenshot of what my Webroot looks like.

regardless of version, the core is still the same with Webroot. Business is cloud maintained and consumer is local. the same logistics is in both. reinstalling Webroot wont fix, i have tried that many times. either uninstall 100% or add the path and file names to the allow list worked from the business side as it should for the consumer too.
- 5 years ago@Danno_USMC Out of curiosity, I went to the Webroot management console instead of the App itself. I don't even have access to that kind of management within it. I can only allow files clientside, not through the Management Console as you can.
Doing the process clientside is different, doesn't work, and hasn't worked since the start of this issue. You're saying it should work based off almost no knowledge of it. I do appreciate that you've included images though, since it allowed me to be 200% sure that I couldn't replicate what you're doing. - DravinClaw5 years agoNew Rookie
I get the same thing I can add it to scripts but for some reason on Block/Allow files it keeps adding a location that doesn't exist anymore. When I uninstalled 2042 to another drive and folder D:\Games
- 5 years ago
i dont know so much about the consumer version but i dont think this is a script. Also you should add C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\Battlefield 2042 and make sure to add the launcher exe and bf2042 exe files. i added those 2 and the anticheat exe and it is working on business webroot

ok here is an update. All night after doing this exceptions, i was able to play. my 1st night since the crap started. not 1 issue. multiple opens and closes of 2042. today, after no changes in policies or exceptions in webroot, the issue is back again. i dont know if EA changed something, or Webroot is finding something else. i played about 20 HZ games last night no issue.... now i am back to searching again.

@Danno_USMC Everyone keeps saying it's Webroot, because they are creating a work around and some are able to play. This is not the case, EAC was on beta and initial launch of game. Game launched fine. December 6th update broke it for users and not just Webroot users. All, because of EA rushing to get the updates pushed out and over looked something critical.
Not only does it still not launch for me, I went ahead and uninstalled Webroot and my game will still not launch. It, will try a to launch game, then upon failure and clicking the OK button. The launcher automatically tries to launch a second time and fails.
So, I'm unable to play the game period and with Webroot aside. I, also received help email from EA stating they are aware that many others are in the same situation. They are working on reviewing the information for a potential fix, but no ETA and further said they have no idea why the game isn't launching or if a fix is possible.
Without Webroot I get this error:
Launch Error
Unexpected error: (Another launcher is already running)

I work for a company that owns Webroot so I have access to both the consumer and business product, here is what I see:
Consumer Webroot: Not able to launch the game, even with exclusions. I cannot launch the game even if I "shut down protection". I can only launch the game if I uninstall WSA completely.
Business Webroot: I can only launch the game if I add these two files to the Block/Allow files in the Webroot UI:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\Battlefield 2042\BF2042_launcher.exe
C:\Program Files (x86)\EasyAntiCheat\EasyAntiCheat.exe
Side note #1: I am not sure how you got this file to be excluded, Webroot says it's not an executable:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\Battlefield 2042\BF2042.exe
Side note #2: I ran a Windows Procmon trace (from sysinternals) when WSA was "shut down" and I saw WRCoreService.x64.exe still running and scanning the Game executables, which is probably why the game is still blocked despite WSA being "shut down". WR does not allow a user (or admin) to kill this service through task manager or CMD.

i was able to get all 3 exe in my cloud console and the game ran fine 1 night after that. next day, it was broke again. now i have to uninstall webroot, load the game, then reinstall commercial license
- 5 years ago
that is not the error all of us are getting with webroot. our error is failure to launch 🏈 when the easycheat runs. the easycheat is the issue with webroot. Webroot has to be completely uninstalled now, the 3 .exe doesnt work anymore. Your error is something not related to Webroot or AV. not sure what that is for we dont have this error

ok folks here is your fix. they are patching it after the holidays, no new patches until then per Webroot. i am a partner with them in business so they have verified this with me.
consumer 1st. download and extract this :
https://download.webroot.com/CAG/GENRMVL.zip
reboot to safe mode with networking.
run this as ADMIN
if no failures, restart as it says. if it cant stop the WRSVS service you need to manually shut it down.
game away
Business side. make sure your webroot can be shut down manually via policy. if you can, the same shall apply as above. if not, change policy in cloud so you can shut down webroot
because the WRSVC cant be stopped in services
game away

i posted the fix for both

I have the same error. The game was working fine until the last week. I have Win 11 with Windows Defender (no 3rd party AV) with all updates.
I tied everything that I could find:
- Running BF2042 repair in Origin
- Clean boot
- Disable UAC
- EAC Service repair utility (EasyAntiCheat_Setup.exe)
- EAC Game Errors Solution Guide
- EAC Service update - EAC have v5.0 there and BF2042 includes v4.0
- Windows System File Checker / Deployment Image Servicing
- Running Origin, EAC, and BF2042 as Administrator
- Uninstalling and installing back the latest Nvidia drivers and Nvidia Experience
- Uninstalling and installing back Origin
- Uninstalling and installing back BF2042
- Disabling Real-time and Tampering protection in Windows Defender
- Other fixes
Nothing helped.

This is a complete joke. Web root is a major selling AV. How could the game work this entire time and now all the sudden I can't play until next year? No wonder so many people are asking for their money back.
