Did they patch it for you alone or everyone?
I didn't receive an update to Webroot and I'm still running the same version as when this whole issue started.
I did not update my webroot, but it is set to update automatically. I have been able to play for the past couple of days. I was stuck at the Launch Error: Failed to start the game ( 2 ) ever since the last update.
EA made me do stupid stuff. Webroot wanted to call me and remote in. They never called. Then I called them and they said nothing we can do right now. Wanted me to delete webroot in safemode. Then install a webroot version that would allow BF2042 to launch. I did not want to run a anemic webroot version so I did nothing.
The game just started to work, so I assume it was a webroot automatic update. I did not see any Origin/EA/BF2042 patch/update.

I want to add to this, as everyone keeps saying it is Webroot. It is not, I have EAC on other games and they work just fine when this happened. Only 2042 was affected and it was with an update EA put out.

@myosin1 Mine started working last Wednesday. No update to Webroot on my end and I still have it active as it was when the Dec 6th update crippled us.
Looking through folders, I see changes were recently made to the game and EAC, so they probably pushed something out without us knowing.
- According to what I have read on the Webroot site is it will only work if you completely uninstall WSA simply turning it off won’t work but don’t forget to reinstall it later .
Disabling webroot worked for me. My McAfee tried expired so I installed webroot and fortnite would not play.. Disable it or allow exception
