Mouse flicker in-game UI

Product: Battlefield 2042
Platform:PC
Please specify your platform model. PC
AMD or Nvidia Model Number NVIDIA RTX 3090
Enter RAM memory size in GB 64GB
Are you using any software with an overlay? Yes
If yes, can you list them here? EA App
If you disable this software, does that have any effect? No
Which part of the game is the issue happening in? Game Menu
In which game menu were you when the bug occurred? All of the game UI.
Please select your region North America
On which server did this happen? All of them.
When did this happen? (dd.mm.yy hh:mm) Since the 1.2 update
Summarize your bug The in-game mouse cursor fights over the windows cursor. When not moving the mouse, the windows cursor is shown over the game. When moving the mouse, the in-game mouse cursor constantly flickers attempting to take over the windows cursor but never succeeds and it just keeps flickering.
How often does the bug occur? Every time (100%)
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? Running Windows 11, 144Hz refresh monitor, Ultrawide, Custom cursor set implemented (not windows default).
What happens when the bug occurs? Mouse cursor is constantly flickering whenever it is moved in any of the in-game UI.
What should be happening instead? The default BF2042 in game cursor should be shown without flicker. Windows cursor should not be shown when game is focused.

Don't know if this is something anyone's dealing with or noticed. This has been happening ever since the 1.2 update a few months back. The in-game mouse cursor flickers as if it's almost z-fighting for priority over the windows cursor. It's hard to spot since the default windows cursor is white as well as the in-game BF2042 cursor. I have a custom black cursor so it's super apparent to me. Running Windows 11, HAGS on (off doesn't make a difference), 144Hz Ultrawide, G-Sync on.

  • Good post with specifics, including a video, which makes it clear what you are referring to, and easier for others to help.

I jumped in game and noticed a little bit of flicker, but not nearly as severe as what you are seeing.

You might consider changing your mouse polling rate to a really low value to see what that does. (Mine is somewhere below 500.) Lowering the speed of the mouse may also have a positive effect. Of course, if you are running any mouse software, that may be contributing.

While there are newer drivers out for your card, I doubt that's your issue.

  • I am having the exact same issue.

It is happening in windowed, borderless and full screen modes.

I played with the Logitech G hub dpi and sampling settings and it makes no difference. This did not occur in the past (first time playing bf2042 in 9 months 🙂 ) and this does not occur in other games.

What are the lowest settings you used?

Your mouse settings are on-board with your mouse and you don't have G Hub (or any other mouse software) running?

  • I have the exact same issue as described above, except the flicker also causes my mouse to go off the game screen and on to the second monitor for a split second every time I do sudden turns in game. Coincidentally, I also use a Logitech mouse, with G Hub installed. I tried all the settings, it makes no difference.

@Madiwka3 For what it's worth, I have a G502 running with no flickering. GHub is running only when I a configure the mouse. The mouse has all settings onboard.

  • i feel like this is an issue with the g502 as this is the only thread i've found with this and i also have the g502 with ghub running

  • I'm having the exact same issue. Apparently this also causes stuttering in the menu.

Using a Razer Viper mouse, with 1000Hz polling rate.

Did you try dropping the polling rate below 500, as mentioned above?
