Ok, here I am back with another update. It is NOT a power issue. I have just purchased and installed a Corsair HX1200i PSU as listed above. Completely re-cabled my entire PC. Everything fires up fine. For good measure, I uninstalled BF2042 and my Video Card Driver using the Display Driver Uninstaller (In Safe mode as you should). Reinstalled the GPU drivers and then BF2042.
Crashed immediately upon start up. I thought, possibly just an issue optimising its stuff. Nope, Joined a server half way through a game (CQ Close Quarters) and it just drops straight to desktop. No warning, no stuttering, just literally shuts the game down.
What I notice when this happens is that the AMD Adrenaline software crashes also.
Ooh, could it be the video card drivers, even though I've completely ripped them out and reinstalled?
Nope because I fired up Avatar Frontiers of Pandora - Played 10 or 15 mins of that with the graphics setting at absolute maximum for everything. No crashes, No problems.
I then fired up Forza Horizon 5 with everything on Extreme settings - ALL fine.
I'm a cyclist too and when I'm not outside, I'm training indoors using ROUVY. You might not think this could be graphically intense but it uses 2.7K video and augmented reality with lots of high detail overlays. - Runs perfectly fine.
Fallout 4 - Fine.
Freaking THIEF GOLD - FINE 😂
Benchmarking software - Fine.
At this point, I am absolutely certain it is NOT my PC but BF2042 is inherently brokent for perhaps some PC Configurations or some specific hardware.
Am I Pi**ed that I bought a new power supply? To be honest, NO, it was a process of elimination and to be fair, my other power supply IS getting quite old now and actually doesn't meet the criteria for my current PC specs so I'm surprised it did actually manage to run it ok 😂 It'll be perfect as a spare (dust collector) or I'll sell it off at a very cheap price to someone.
At this point, I am absolutely stumped.... I've tried EVERYTHING except reinstall Windows. As much as it pains me to do so, I will back down and either reinstall Windows or possibly install a secondary installation as a dual boot and have ONLY battlefield installed in there.
We'll see.
I can see others are still having similar issues so at the very least, this thread may possibly at least help others in some way, perhaps not though.
I'll come back to check for any other replies and eventually to post a solution if I ever get one.
