Portal Custom Game - Friends can't join - 1/1 in queue

Hi, I'm a long time battlefield user and love the game. 

I'm enjoying BF2042 but have one issue. Every time I create a game in portal and friends try to join it won't let them in. It just says "you're 1/1 in the queue." Has anyone experienced this before?
