Re: BF 2042 crashing whole computer

Hello everyone ! hope we are all doing well today I come baring a simple question because I saw a few people reporting this but I wanted to know if anyone is having the same exact issue as me with this game currently. So ever since the new update I run into a very bad issue where the game will shut off my whole PC during the main menu or trying to just load into the main menu itself but if I am lucky enough to have the PC stay on for a minute I can quick match into a game and play the game just fine my PC ONLY shuts off during the main menu or the splash screen.

So at first I maybe thought it could be something wrong with my PC and after multiple Benchmark test to stress test both CPU and GPU ( Furmark and Cinebench ) I ran into NO pc shutoffs and both Benchmarks went just perfect. So after that I ran other High end games and played them ( Cyberpunk, MW2 , BF1,5) and once again I had NO issues with my PC shutting off. So at this stage there is no way my PC is at fault I have no other conclusion then BF2042 causing this issue only.

With that being said I just wanted to see if anyone here was having this same exact problem and maybe throw an idea or two my way? I do not overclock any parts of my PC past my RAM and if anything I undervolt my CPU to keep temps under 80 so no I do not overclock my CPU and GPU if you were wondering.

Specs:

GPU: GTX 3070

CPU: Ryzen 7 5800x

RAM: DDR4 32GB

Thank you !

Be careful claiming there is no way it's your PC. I had a very similar issue a few years ago (was only happening with one game) and it turns out there was an unusual amount of dust on my GPU fan. As soon as I cleaned it, everything worked fine.

Assuming cleaning (and checking cables) does not do it for you, I suggest you attach a DXDIAG report, as someone may spot something.

@DarthFDG I already attached that report. It was 100% the game either messing with windows or my bios somehow. The highest probability of the cause is a memory leak in my opinion because of runtimebroker.exe was the trigger. This could be due to a windows update restart but in this case it was not triggered by windows update, and I would see my memory slowly climbing however I never saw my RAM usage max out.

One of the moderators combined some threads. My comment was to someone else in a different thread that got combined.

I am assuming your comment was for me in which here is the report for you or anyone else to see!

both cords and cleaning are both things that were done very recently as I got a new CPU in the past week or so that made me dust out the stuff in my PC 🙂

@Kirokitokazuto  did ya after replacing cpu , a bios reset and load optimized defaults ?
Did check for new Bios update and system drivers (some of youre drivers are from 2019)
Delete bf2042/cache folder content , and default all settings , gpu , game ect ect ect. save exit , reboot !
    Now customize your settings !

Also do a windows check to see if no old driver/file got issues with your cpu upgrade ! read below:
    SFC - Windows Health Check

Press Windows key + 'R' ,typ CMD
Press and hold down CTRL + SHIFT and press ENTER.
When User Account Control shows up, click Yes.
Use the following command lines, pressing Enter after each
(make sure you wait till each of the commands is executed properly):

    sfc /scannow
    DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth
    DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth
    DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
Did it fix some erros ? reboot system , also reboot if there are no erros !
Now run SFC /SCANNOW only , to check for any more errors !

No more errors ? read text below !
    SYSTEM DRIVERS AND CHIPSET UPDATE

Check the Youtube movie how to install , download and update ALL drivers.
    https://youtu.be/6UpzenfVOAA
Open the web browser and enter url: https:\\www.drivereasy.com
Click at Driver Update Tool in the upper bar and select Download Free Version.
Click at the green button with the text DOWNLOAD DRIVER EASY NOW.
When tool is downloaded select the file and run.
    Install Driver Easy Tool.

Some drivers updates need to reboot your system, reboot system when needed,
continue using Driver Easy untill 'ALL' drivers are updated.
This free version allows only 1 download and 1 update at once.
    Reboot system !

Now test your game! still issues ? then do a cleanboot !
    Cleanboot / Msconfig

Check if the game runs without issues.
Incase game still has issues , then clean boot, and test the game again !

reboot pc by a clean boot:
    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/how-to-perform-a-clean-boot-in-windows-da2f9573-6eec-00ad-2f8a-a97a1807f3dd
Hide all Microsoft services, DISABLE (uncheck) ALL other processes, apps and services !

Cleanboot is just a one time clean boot ! Next reboot all will be reset and a normal boot will be occure.
Use msconfig to disable apps permanent each for new reboot.
DISABLE ALL other processes, apps and services from booting with windows, check instructions below:
Use the keyboard shortcut “Windows Key + R” and the “Run” window will open.
In the text box, typ MSCONFIG and press Enter or OK and the MsConfig window will open".
Select the tab STARTUP , and disable apps/programs by right click at them!
Those disabled apps will no longer boot with Windows , till ya set them enabled again ! Reboot system !!!!

(PS your cpu/gpu is not getting to hot , so it shutdown for burn protection ?)

EDIT: Oh disconect all hardware from pc, only keep 1 mouse , 1 keyboard , 1 headset , 1 monitor connected, all other hadware MUST be disconnected , before ya test game ! !!
    Update us please !

Yeah, the request was for you. Thanks for posting.

The dust thing was a long shot. More than anything shows that there are many variables when dealing with PC gaming.

Based on your DXDIAG, some suggestions:

    1. For troubleshooting just use 1 monitor and make sure resolution for the monitor is same as what you are using in game.

    2. Check out those errors at the bottom of the DXDIAG report. You've got multiple applications with issues; some look like memory leaks.

    3. Based on #2 go into BIOS and make sure your memory settings are correct. You should turn off XMP for troubleshooting. That new CPU (congratulations BTW) supports certain memory speeds. In fact, you need to make sure the memory you have is compatible with your new CPU.

@Kirokitokazuto Make sure your BIOS, Chipset drivers, Lan Drivers are all up to date. If all of them are up to date and the issue still persists. Clear the CMOS on your motherboard. Thats what worked for me.
