Are you using any software with an overlay? Yes
If yes, can you list them here? GeForce NVidia Experience
If you disable this software, does that have any effect? Unknown
Which part of the game is the issue happening in? In Game
In which game menu were you when the bug occurred? Main Game / Conquest
Please select your region Australia
On which server did this happen? Unsure
When did this happen? (dd.mm.yy hh:mm) 14/11/2021 23:20hrs
Summarize your bug Slow crash to desktop after below DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG error was shown.
How often does the bug occur? Unknown (First time)
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? Unknown
What happens when the bug occurs? Game froze and audio hung on a single sound. Task Manager showed that there was an error message in the background (as below). Once this error rmessage was cleared, the game closed itself a few seconds later.
What should be happening instead? This shouldn't occur during gameplay.Additional Notes: This occurred as I was in a the front passenger seat of a jeep, having spawned into the vehicle from the round starting. I had opened the map when the crash occurred and, interestingly, there were two solid dots on the map to mark spawn points (as in, each team had 2). I'm unsure if that was intended, as I think it was my first (or second) time on that map.
I also note that I have the latest NVidia drivers. DXDiag attached.
Full Error:
- DirectX Error
- DirectX function "GetDeviceRemovedReason" failed with DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG ("The GPU will not respond to more commands"). GPU: "NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080", Driver: 49649. This error is usually caused by the graphics driver crashing; try installing the latest drivers.
- Same stuff. Tried everything with no luck at all.
Same issues... with an RTX 2070 and newest driver.
Tried everything.
I Found a fix for me, i'm able to play for like 6 hours straight.
Try this:
1. Open Explorer and go to your Documents.
2. Open the Battlefield 2042 folder, than the settings folder.
3. Click on PROFSAVE_profile. (i used Notepad).
4. search for this command "GstRender.Dx12Enabled 0"
then change the zero/0 to an one/1.
5. Save this file and you're done.
Hope its helps.
i have tryed ur solution. Fortunately is works but the game still crush with this issuse while i overclock my 6900XT.

What happens when the bug occurs? Game freeze, audio hung, back to desktop. After clicking OK at the error message, the game closes itself.
What should be happening instead? the game should run, like every other game does!Additional Notes: MS Windows and graphics drivers are u2d. DXDiag attached.
Full Error:
- DirectX Error
- DirectX function "GetDeviceRemovedReason" failed with DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG ("The GPU will not respond to more commands"). To those thinking its your GPU it is not.
Glad to see the latest patch didn't fix *. If anything it made the situation worse. I have been running my gpu at 30% underclock and wasn't getting errors. Guess what, I am back to getting errors again!
I think this might be the final nail in the coffin for me. I can't believe this thread is approaching 80 pages and EA/Dice are ignoring it? I want a * refund this is ridiculous.
FWIW I am on latest Radeon drivers too. Tested with and without underclock.

RTX 3080 here and same issues since beta. only game that does this or crash. its about time to not play this anymore.
My 3080 crashes in BF2042 maybe once an hour at stock settings. As you say, it's the only game that does this for me. I've applied a 400Mhz underclock and I don't think I've had the GPU hang or device removed error with that. I do rarely get a crash to desktop (with no alert box), but my friends also get that (they've never had the GPU hang issue)
Give the -400Mhz trick a try, it's certainly far more stable for me now.
Dear @Feldlagerkarl in this forum thread there is a solution for this problem that since I've been using it has worked for me. Go to the AMD software and use only and exclusively for this game 70% of the capacity of the graphics card. I have done it and I have been hours and hours without that problem. This will solve the issue for now until someone gives us another option. It is not my own contribution, it is @Heroxoot
- Feldlagerkarl4 years agoRising Rookie@C1scO81 Thx mate! I already noticed that information and tried it out. During start the game (not the match itself) I got another error message. But even can’t start any game nore match. The error messages directing to same problem with DirectX. Only description is different.
So… thx for this information. I already checked that option. It doesn’t work for me 😒
And I have to wait for an update from the dev-team at DICE At least they’ve officially acknowledged and added the problem to the ‘known issues’ list …
https://answers.ea.com/t5/Updates/Battlefield-2042-Known-Issues/td-p/10944776i guess this is a progress after 3 months?! 😞

This is really bad. The game is crap already. Now you crash out to this crappy game.
Updated my BIOS....was able to play the game with no issues for 2 days.......Fired it up yesterday and the errors came back, Just tried to play again and i get an error shortly after joining a game. ....It ONLY happens to BF2042....
Farcry 6, Destiny 2, and COD work perfectly. So don't blame the driver....
@space_cadet_zoom It's how the game is handling boost clocks. All the people with problems have high boosting GPUs. I was only able to fix it by underclocking which is a BS answer.

Same here. I have an OC’ed RTX2080s and since I disabled OC mode in the Aorus Engine software and set it default (which is Gaming mode) I didn’t crashed even once for month. It still a stupid solution that i need to nerf my GPU just for a single broken game but it is what it is …

I am using factory OC'd cards. I can run the game anywhere from 5 minutes to 6 hours without getting the error, its very intermittant.
My system currently:
AMD Ryzen9 5950x
Asus Crosshair VIII Hero X570 Motherboard
32GB Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro DDR4-4000Mhz @ 3600Mhz CL16
EVGA RTX3080Ti FTW3 Ultra
Samsung 980 Pro 1TB NVMe 4.0 Boot drive
Sabrent Rocket Q4 4TB NVMe 4.0 Game drive
Elgato 4K60 Pro Mk.2 Capture card
Asus PCE-AC88 Wifi Card
Corsair HX850 Platinum PSU
Corsair 5000D Case
EKWB 360 D-RGB AIO
10x EKWB Vardar D-RGB Fans
Windows 11 Pro
Asus Armoury Crate + Corsair iCue (for RGB control)
Elgato Stream Deck
TC-Helicon GoXLR (audio)
NVIDIA Driver 511.23
What have I done?
- Upgraded motherboard (from Asus Strix B450-F to the X570)
- New ram (from DDR4-3200Mhz to DDR-3600Mhz)
- Reinstalled Windows 10 Pro
- Upgraded to Windows 11 Pro
- Been through 4 different NVIDIA Driver revisions
- Upgraded PSU (Corsair RM850 to HX850 Platinum)
- Ran additional EPS Power to CPU, ran a 3rd PCIe power cable to the 3080Ti (instead of using the daisy connector)
- RMA'd my EVGA RTX3080Ti FTW3 Ultra - No fault found.
- Tried my spare EVGA RTX2080Super FTW3.
- Disabled Resizeable BAR
- Disabled PBO & Curve Optimiser
- Disabled DOCP/XMP (ran at 2133Mhz)
None of this made a difference.
So far though I havent experienced it while underclocking my GPU. I've lowered the clocks to factory spec for the RTX3080Ti (19000Mhz Memory / 1670Mhz Core)
I'm still getting constant errors with the game just crashing to desktop, but not had the Direct X error yet, but why does 2042 have this error.
I had no issues with Battlefield V or Battlefront 2. The store literally tested the card by running 3DMark for 48 hours over a weekend, on top of running Overwatch and other games and could not find an issue.
- @JarskyPlays It's not you, it's the game.
- JarskyPlays4 years agoNew Ace@Heroxoot Downclocking has helped, but still getting the error, had a crash yesterday. Cant even find a single 128 Player Breakthrough match in Australia region today because the game is so dead, so unable to test any further. Probably wont be able to play the game again since I can't get a match on what should be the busiest time of day on the busiest day of the week.
I have the same problem on my Amd 6900xt. System is win11 intel 12700k, ddr5 and a 850w psu.
Only bf2042 is crashing. AAa Games like Farcry 6, Baldurs Gate3 or anything else is working perfectly under heavy system/gpu load.
my working solution: downclocked the GPU to 1600 Mhz instead of 2400 base clock.
just downclock it until it works….
It feels like an alpha version of the game.
sadly not even a powerfull sytem can outplay the bad performance of the game.@EA_Atic is there any solution or statement to this error. The last post was on page 66 with an question for a screenshot
Me too! EVGA 3080
Galax 2060 Super I have the same problem for a LONG LONG time and also i know someone who says the game is good there is no problem with the game, it does not give me this error, there is a problem with your computer LOL
