Summarize your bug Within minutes after minimizing the game using ALT+TAB on Windows 10, the game randomly crashes with a blue screen and this error: DirectX function "Gpu Hang Detected" failed with DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG ("The GPU will not respond to more commands"). GPU: "NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER", Driver: 52824. D:\dev\TnT\LocalPackages\RenderCore2\2.04.00-ks\source\platform\Dx12\SubmissionManagerDx12.cpp. This error is usually caused by the graphics driver crashing; try installing the latest drivers.
How often does the bug occur? Every time (100%)
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? By minimizing the game on Windows 10 and waiting a bit, usually after a few minutes you get a blue screen followed by this error.
What happens when the bug occurs? Blue screen for a couple seconds, then back to Windows with error mentioned above. I can start the game again but only after maybe 10 seconds. If I don't minimize the game and stay in the game, then the game never crashes.
What should be happening instead? Nothing, the game should not crash when minimized.

I just don't play games like most people: I ALT-TAB a lot and it works fine for all games. Even for BF2042 it used to work well! But since a around season 3 release that issue appeared.

I already updated NVIDIA drivers, dirextX is up-to-date, I actually reinstalled Windows 10 just for this - it didn't help.

The last NVIDIA drivers update was 2 or 3 days ago and of course I have the last BF2042. Absolutely nothing fixes the problem - it doesn't matter the Nvidia driver version, the BF2042 version or anything else. The bug is internal to the game and it was introduced around season 3.

@zobizoba1 9 out of 10 times hard crashes and bluescreens are either faulty hardware or a bad driver.

You say you installed the NVIDIA latest driver, which is 531.41, but you actually have installed 528.24, which is a few versions ago. Sounds like you may want to check all your drivers.

If you really think it's the game, reinstalling the game would fix it. There is no wide-spread crashing being reported at the moment - i.e. the downloadable game binaries are not faulty.

@DarthFDG I did not just reinstall the game, I reinstalled Windows (and the game). Also the problem has been occurring across at least 5 successive versions of Nvidia drivers. The problem suddenly appeared around season 3 update.

In light of the above, it seems rather self-evident to me that the problem lies within the game itself.
  • YES - both my friend and I have this error to the point the game is not playable.  We've resinstalled the game, EA Desktop (garbage), Deleted Documents/Battle2042/Cache folder... we've tried EVERYTHING and it still happens.  We don't even Alt+Tab!   He's on a Ryzen 3900X and RTX 3090, I'm using a Ryzen 5800X and Radeon 7900 XTX.  We are at a loss.

@BigSleezey1964New update released yesterday and they managed to make the problem worse: it's no longer blue screen followed by return to Windows, now there's no return - you have to actually press the computer's power button for several seconds to force shutdown and turn the computer back on.

I stopped playing the game a couple months ago and moved to CS:GO and BF3 lol. Waiting for a fix, which would never come.

I can't believe such an obvious issue is being completely disregarded. The game just doesn't support ALT+TAB, I mean what the hell!?

EDIT 1 : it seems i start to get these after i alt tab a few times so .. deffo it's on their end.

@off3nc3 for you the game crashes while minimized right? Is it in "windowed" mode?

I don't understand why so few people are complaining about this. Alt-tabbing a game at least from time to time is such as common thing though.

Still no fix. Season 5 coming in about three weeks. Finger crossed for a fix at that point.

@zobizoba1 It is possible youre gpu driver and hardware got issues !
Multiple monitors/tv connected with different resolutions and Hz settings can cause errors/issues.

Disconnect all hardware dongles, controllers , hubs , ect ect ect
    , ONLY keep 1 mouse , 1 keyboard , 1 headset and JUST 1 MONITOR connected !
Disconnect hardware when pc is shutdown, now boot windows, windows will change CFG.
Now reboot again, DO NOT CONNECT OTHER HARDWARE.
Test game and update us please !!!!

    Thanks

@Rokebo73 there's no way it's caused by GPU driver or hardware issues. It started suddenly around season 3 and persisted across many updates of my GPU (Nvidia) and even a Windows reinstall. Other users reported the exact same problem with different setups. It's definitely a bug within the game. It hasn't been fixed presumably because so few people at DICE are still working on the game (everyone else is on the next BF game).

Updated Nvidia drivers then downloaded season 5, hoping they fixed the issue.

Nope! Game STILL does not support ALT-TAB.

    What. The. Actual. Hell.

    @zobizoba1 i got no issues when i use ALT+TAB.
Some configuration at youre system cause issues with this key combo.
So it could be hardware and/or software related.
To investigate this issue , post dxdiag (again if ya already did so).

PS does alt+tab not work at all ? or is it a BSOD? GHame get stuck , post youre details please !
What troubleshoot did ya do al;ready ?

    Thanks and cheers

Also no issues here with using Alt+Tab now I think about it.

Just performed dxdiag and attached it to this post.

How long did you stay on Windows after ALT-TABing the game? For me the crash usually occurs after a few minutes but once it took half an hour to occur. Maybe you didn't wait long enough?

To describe the issue again, ALT-TAB does work fine but while on Windows (with the game reduced after ALT-TAB), the game eventually crashes with a Windows blue screen showing for a second followed by a return to Windows with the following fatal error message:

Again, this issue started out of the blue from around season 3 without me changing anything on my machine. I tried reinstalling the game, reinstalling Windows. The problem persists across game updates, across NVidia driver updates. And I'm not the only user reporting this issue. So it is VERY UNLIKELY to be caused by a software or hardware issue on my machine.
