Good to read ya narrowed it down to possible issues with services.
I do see also some service (vpn, shareaccount/vpn ect ect) that could be the cause of this. Some software can be disabled for booting with windows, but sometime there are still services from software that will boot with windows even if its disabled ☹️
Post the services/software so others can use it for future troubleshooting if its needed !!
Cheers and Game On !

Thanks for the prompt response @Rokebo73, please find attached the mb_mem_bios_info output as requested.
Got this error since day 1 ya got BF2042 ?
- No, the first minidump created was on the 29/08/23 - I have been playing since release.
- Rokebo733 years agoSeasoned Ace@hotproperty11 Question.
issues since ya did buy/install BF2042 ?
Did already do a SFC /SCANNOW ?
Also did build this pc by your self ?
I see 4 memory sticks , did ya buy 2 packs each with 2x8gb in it ?
Did ya check for supported ram ?
If i am correct is this this list with supported ram ?

update us please ! Thanks - hotproperty113 years agoRising Vanguard
I'll respond in order:
- No, the issues started on the 29/08/23 - I have been playing since launch.
- Yes, as mentioned in original post DISM and SFC both ran and passed with no issues.
- No, this was purchased from PC Specialist (https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/)
- Yes, this is how the memory is configured, 4x8GB sticks. PC Specialist installed them.
- My memory isn't on that list - I've noticed that you've linked to the X570-E - my motherboard is the X570-F but still no exact match to my RAM product number. Up to CM4X8GD3 is recognised..
- I understand that my ram (part number CM4X8GD3600C18K2D) may not be on this list, but I haven't had this issue with any other game, or any issues at all, except this. I have raised this with the vendor to get their thoughts, as what they sold should be compatible.
- Rokebo733 years agoSeasoned Ace
@hotproperty11 Could ya test youre memory ? Play with only 2 sticks (16gb total) , probarly in A2 and B2 <-- check manual. Then use the 2 other sticks just for test !
Its possbile the "new" bf2042 software could have some issues now with current CFG (memory XMP/DOCP , not compatible what could be the cause of issue now)..
Or a memory stick(s) got damaged, be aware test software for memory will not always display an error when memory is realy defect/faulty.
Also check what happens if ya play around with XMP / DOCP.
A clear cmos could help also , after clear cmos , load default settings.
A real CLR CMOS is done with PINS at the motherboard <-- check manual again. (check rtc ram picture)
Its hard to tell if any service(s) are still an issue, even if ya uninstall software it could be the culprit !
Sometimes its possible windows did get corrupt (registry / files ect ect ect).
I have seen issues with ASUS/AMD software (to much auto boost and need to lower the OC, down clock)
Maybe a fresh install from windows (install without network connection), and make sure windows is only updating windows it selfand not use/install the system/hardware drivers from microsoft.
Sytem/hardware drivers pre download them from manufacture website and install them also without network connection.
So install windows and hardware drivers (all at once) without network to make sure correct/manufacture drivers are installed and not from microsoft.
update us.
ps i have seen multiple people with "not compatible" memory issues, and helped them and what i advised them.
They changed memory to compatible memory.
Check other topics i did reply in with memory issues !!If ya buy new memory , i would suggest ya buy 2x 16GB , and set them in A2 and B2 to make sure DUAL CHANNEL is active.
Dual channel will boost system performance (make sure, if ya buy memory, 2x 16gb is in just 1 package , so it from the "same batch")

Hi @Rokebo73,
- I've updated my initial posts with progress, no resolution has been found as yet.
- I'm not prepared to spend out on more RAM as I don't believe it's a hardware fault, but a software fault with BF2042.
- I have no issues at all with any other piece of software I've ever run on this device which reinforces the point above.
About to give up to be honest, unless it can be escalated further - unless you have any more thoughts?
Thanks again for your input.

@hotproperty11 Hmmm weird that they can say 100% proof no issue with ram ?
There is "no test" done with this ram by asus , how can they aknowlegde ram isnt issue ???
But lets do a test gain:
Do a CMOS RST RESET again with the PINS AT MOTHERBOARD.
Disconnect power cable, hold down power button from pc for 5 seconds.
Now connect those 2 pins at motherboard with a screw driver / knife , paperclip ect ect ect and keep it connected for also 5 seconds.
Plugin power cable , switch pc to on and do not go into bios.
Delete content of the Battlefield 2042\Cache folder and test game.
Update us please.
ps do not config bios settings after CMOS RST
Also did try to run game without asus drivers as in bsod optic !? - hotproperty112 years agoRising Vanguard
Hi @Rokebo73,
- It's PC Specialist (not ASUS) who are saying the RAM isn't an issue. They explicitly test each build before shipment. I agree 100% with them. If I had faulty hardware, then I would experience numerous other problems elsewhere. This point is a red herring and has been a huge time sink. I haven't had a single issue with anything else using this device, so this is not the cause in my case.
- "Also did try to run game without asus drivers as in bsod optic !? - I'm not sure what you mean by this, if it helps there haven't been any BSOD's.
- Microsoft thread stating this is likely a programming issue, not a hardware issue: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/shows/inside/c0000005
- claude.ai (using the prompt "c0000005 Access violation is it hardware or software") has the following to say about the Exception Code C0000005:
C0000005 is a Windows system error code that indicates an access violation. This typically occurs when a program attempts to read or write to a memory location that it does not have permission to access. Some key things to know about the c0000005 error:- It is a software issue, not a hardware one. The error occurs because of a bug or flaw in a program's code, not because of a physical problem with the hardware.
- It often happens when a program attempts to access an invalid memory address, tries to read from a write-only location, or writes to a read-only location.
- The specific program that triggered the error will be indicated in the error details. The error generally occurs within that program's code.
- It can sometimes be caused by a corrupt registry, drivers, or system files. Reinstalling or updating these can potentially resolve the issue.
- Hardware issues like bad RAM or a failing hard drive can lead to c0000005 errors, but only because they cause system file corruption that the software then struggles to deal with.
So in summary, c0000005 indicates an access violation bug within software code. Troubleshooting should focus on identifying the faulty software and then either updating/reinstalling it or correcting the specific coding error causing the problem. Hardware issues are rarely the root cause.
Given the following:
- I was able to play since launch up until recently,
- The amount of updates BF2042 has had,
- The numerous amounts of tests I have performed myself with zero changes or improvements,
- Seeing other user's threads that descriptions are very similar to my mine,
- The absolute wealth of bugs this game experiences and considering how infamous the launch of the game was -
I am almost certain that this is a bug within the game and is an issue that I will not be able to resolve.
I'll keep trying other stuff. In the meantime, I'd like to escalate this further if possible?
Thanks.

They probarly not support you. Reason is memory installed thats not in the QVL!
Cheers
I don't know if QVL is a judgment on the computer's performance. I myself have RAM called GOODRAM IRDM X RAM
16GB 3000MHZ DDR4 CL16 (2X8) BLUE DIMM + GOODRAM 16GB (2x8GB) 3000MHz CL16 IRDM X
Black (same parameters), which is not listed in the support list in MB Gigabite Z 370 Gaming 5 and has been working fine for me on the XMP profile for 4 years.
The question is whether you did a RAM test with some program that will fill the entire RAM memory in order to test its stability, and whether all the sticks are the same - if any pair has different parameters, then strange errors may occur.
Before this test, check if by any chance you have disabled virtual memory (the so-called pagefile) in your Windows system. If you have it disabled, turn it on (it is on by default, if you or the person who installed Windows on your computer has not turned it off), why am I mentioning about paging memory? For this reason, because if a program throws 32 GB or more of memory at RAM, the computer will hang unless it dumps the excess memory into the pagefile on disk. If the computer slows down/dulls when RAM is at 100% load, don't worry, it will be normal, because the disk (even SSD) is much slower than RAM. What I'm more concerned about is whether a similar error to the one you currently have will appear and, above all, whether the so-called white screen of death will occur. If the RAM passes the test, it means that the RAM is OK (I think that 10 minutes of such a RAM stress test is enough).
Test them first, then buy RAM from the list supported by the manufacturer of your motherboard, because if you now buy RAM supported by your motherboard, it may turn out that you will only lose money, warranty on the purchased ready-made computer due to a component change, and the problem still persists will stay.
Attention:
If you have an M.2 drive without a heatsink, I recommend running HWINFO in sensors only mode and checking the temperature of the M2 drive while testing the RAM so that it doesn't accidentally go up in smoke, because if Windows dumps excess memory on the M2 drive during this test, the M2 drive will he will have something to do and M2 drives get very hot 🙂
The second thing you need to take into account, the paging file will be heavily used, so the life of the SSD drive (M2 or 2.5 inches) will also be shortened by about 1% during these 10 minutes of the test.If you have an HDD, set the location of the paging memory (virtual memory) to this disk, nothing will happen to it during a 10-minute load.
If you want to know whether RAM is actually the cause, you have to put it under load and fill its memory by at least 95%, otherwise you will not rule out this hypothesis.
If you have already tested the RAM with a stress test and filled at least 95% of the memory with this program and everything was OK, do not repeat it - there is no point.
This is my idea for checking RAM, I hope it will further narrow down the field of searching for the source of the problem.
---------------------
If the test shows that the RAM works ok and you have a problem only in BF2042, if you want, you can also format the system partition (the so-called C drive) and the other partition made by Windows installer, all partitions related to the system you need to format (I have total 4 [screen below] ), do not touch the remaining normal partitions with personal files, install Windows using the latest ISO image downloaded from the Microsoft website, then install the drivers (install drivers for MB and GPU using installers downloaded from manufacturers webpages, not from the crappy Windows Update ). I also recommend skipping Windows updates when installing the system (before the stage of searching for Windows updates, disconnect the Internet xd), just install the system from the ISO image without additional patches, then drivers, then EA APP, BF2042 and check if the error still occurs.
Windows Update after installing Windows itself effectively disables Windows Update Blocker v 1.6 (W10 and W11). Later, once you check whether BF2042 is working or not, you can use this program to enable it again if you want the system to auto update after test BF2042.
The "pause update for a few days" option in Windows only blocks regular patches, so-called critical patches can still be downloaded, including drivers that may be bugged, which is why I have listed the program above to effectively disable updates.

Hi @DMGG1994, First of all, thank you for your detailed response. Please see below:
- In my initial post (which details every step I've taken), I ran every test available on Memtest86, and left it over night. Pass on all fronts.
- You've mentioned filling the RAM beyond 95% - what application are you using to achieve this?
- Page file is on and managed by Windows.
- No other game, or application has any issues. Including video editing, upscaling, music editing software. I have about 20 games installed and have many others that I've played over the past 2 years of using this device and I haven't experienced any issues. Battlefield 2042 is the one exception to this.
- I can't be partitioning C:, I'll loose the space unless the drive is reformatted again. I've already done this three times attempting to diagnose the issue and I'm done with messing around with the Operating System / Disks / RAM.
- The game has run perfectly fine in the past, I am almost adamant that it is an issue with how the game handles memory. I can run it first time 97% of the time, but then attempting to run it after that results in a crash file.
Hi,
I see you have bugged Nvidia drivers version 545.84 , install version 545.92 . On version 545.92 BF2042 is working much better on 545.92 than 545.84 (on 545.84 i had first time from 4 years blue screens).
try RealBench , it has an option to select how much RAM is to be occupied during the stress test of the entire computer (options are 4, 8, 16, 32, 64 and 128 GB of Ram). I don't know the program specifically for testing Ram itself, so I won't tell you the name even if I wanted to.
The BF2042 game is very poorly optimized, I admit, and has many bugs.
From what I read in your first post, the black screen of BF2042 generates the error you mentioned. So before you do the stress test, try this:
I solved the black screen by removing the DXCACHE of Nvidia graphics, at the link below, post #463 I described how to remove them:
After deleting faulty NVIDIA DXCACHE (not the folder but the files inside), the game stopped generating a black screen for me.
Since it's a black screen in the game and not a blue screen of death, I'm 100% sure it's not RAM or another component.. BF2042 black screen is its famous error.
SpoilerWhy did you leave the stress test overnight? For me, when I overclock anything, I test everything for a maximum of 20 minutes 🙂 If something is going to happen, something will happen within 20 minutes, but for stubborn people, an hour is enough. It doesn't make sense longer than 1 hour, because in my opinion it's just sawing the computer.GL

Hi @DMGG1994,
- "I see you have bugged Nvidia drivers version 545.84 , install version 545.92 . On version 545.92 BF2042 is working much better on 545.92 than 545.84 (on 545.84 i had first time from 4 years blue screens).
- I have since updated NVIDIA Drivers to 546.01, 31/10/23 - Is this advice still relevant?
- I'm now downloading and will soon be running RealBench.
- I will attempt your instructions on removing NVIDIA DXCACHE files.
- Thank you again for confirming it's not hardware. @Rokebo73 please take note.
As to why I left Memtest86 test on overnight - I didn't know how long it would take, I use my device frequently during the day and wanted to be thorough.
Memtest86 wasn't constantly performing tests I'm sure; it had a PASS screen indicating it had finished at some point.
Thanks again for clear correspondence and help! I'll update this space soon 🙂.
- "I see you have bugged Nvidia drivers version 545.84 , install version 545.92 . On version 545.92 BF2042 is working much better on 545.92 than 545.84 (on 545.84 i had first time from 4 years blue screens).
First, delete the DXCACHE created by Nvidia, then start the stress test, in my opinion, deleting the old faulty DXCACHE will help, Nvidia will create the correct cache again and BF2042 should work. If that doesn't help, then do a stress test on your computer and load the memory by at least 95%. There is no point in performing stress tests beforehand unless you rule out the hypothesis of faulty DXCACHE generated by NVIDIA drivers.
It's hard for me to comment on version 546.01 since I haven't installed it. I saw that you mentioned version 545.84, which caused a lot of problems for me, so I mentioned it. If you currently do not have blue screens of death on version 546.01, in my opinion there is no point in updating your drivers.
I haven't had BSOD problems for 4 years (the computer really was stable, too stable), and suddenly the BSOD occurred after updating the NVIDI drivers to version 545.84 (BF2042 ordered me to update, and on the day I bought BF2042, the latest faulty drivers in version 545.84 were available, so I downloaded them xd), After removing the older version of Nvidia drivers using DDU in windows save mode and installing new ones, the never-occurring blue screen of death appeared, so it was clear that the fault was with the drivers. After updating to version 545.92 (then the latest version), the BSOD disappeared. (I didn't update the BIOS or Windows - which was really unnecessary here and could only create new problems)
Generally, recently, after a system restore that I did for another reason unrelated to the game, BF2042 experienced black screens after every match or after every exit from the match. I noticed on the OSD monitor that the game stopped working (it didn't even load anything from the disk, everything just stopped and I had to turn off BF2042 using the task manager or alt +F4). After this fact, I was practically 95% sure that the DXCACHES created by NVIDIA were simply not up to date (since I restored the system to the state from a day ago, it was a real fact that the caches were not adequate to the current state), so I deleted them so that NVIDIA will regenerate the new current cache and BF2042 will not get crashed. After this operation, the game is currently working fine for me, it has already used the Nvidia Cache created by the NVIDIA driver a few times and everything is fine. I hope it will work for you too.
I did not touch the cache generated by BF2042 which are in the documents. If, after deleting the old Nvidia caches according to the instructions I mentioned in the previous post, you still have a problem with a black screen in BF2042, and the stress tests are positive (you won't get a BSOD or a Windows crash), then I don't know how to help you at this point, you'll just he had to be patient and use ctrl+alt+del to call the windows manager to close the game or do it with alt + F4 until DICE solves this problem, which in my opinion will introduce an algorithm that will ignore incorrect cache if the game it won't read it correctly..

Beaware that if something is wrong with memory and ya do run a test on it,
test software does not always display an error if something is "broken/faulty/not compatible" ram/cfg ect ect ect !! <-- take note of it 😉
I have seen multiple issues with ram , while test software , mem95 , windows mem diag ect ect ect do not display any error and past everything !!!
Just to exclude ram from errors , ya could borrow mem (thats in youre QVL) from "someone" and try again.
Make sure if ya install memory its in dualchannel mode at youre motherboard.
Also dont forget to reconfig xmp/docp if ya got other mem installed (just for test purpose only) and hope ya find the best settying for the ram ya use !
Cheers
@Rokebo73 I currently have RAM and NVME outside the QVL list and everything works fine, I eliminated the BF2042 black screen using the method described above.
@hotproperty11 If you start replacing RAM sticks with other ones, turn off the XMP profile in BIOS settings before removing them from the motherboard, unless you want to have to remove the battery later to reset the BIOS, because the BIOS may become stupid with the new RAM if it has the profile loaded XMP from previous RAM. And the golden rule is that all RAM sticks must have the same parameters (in theory, the better RAM will slow down its parameters to the worse one, but such configurations tend to generate BSOD).
SpoilerAs for the stress test time, stress tests of up to 4 days are performed during the validation of a new product to make sure that there will be no errors for the customer before the product is put into mass production. At home, a maximum of 1 hour is enough. Service centers still use the principle of a 1-day stress test to eliminate 100% the possibility of overheating of a given component and to exclude any potential problems with the stability of the PC before selling it to the customer.

@DMGG1994 Or just do a clr cmos, by connecting 2 pins at motherboard <<-- check manual !!
Real stress test is running bf2042 hahahaha.
He just should try other ram , just to test if he get this error again.
Sometimes it also could be an error with the ssd.(maybe sata cable ?)
Enough power (PSU) for the system? <<-- Who knows ? Test test and keep testing
I have seen ssd's that could not be formatted anymore, system did stay on it <-- hahaha (even after use of multiple tools)PS And the golden rule is that all RAM is all from the same batch and in QVL, so if ya buy 2 sticks they should both be in the one and the same box, no 2 boxes (even if it is the same paramer.. ect ect ect).
memory from different batches could cause issues to 😉
Cheers
@hotproperty11 You could also test youre CPU for any errors. (intel for example has an tool to test cpu)
Sometimes reaset everything at motherboard could solve problem, one by one (take everything from motherboard first and clr cmos)
Install mem and GPU then boot system, shutdown, reaseat next hardware (ssd for example just 1) , power system , ect ect ect ect untill everything is "onboard" again !
Cheers again 😉
,,Real stress test is running bf2042 hahahaha.'' LOL
I don't know why you need to reset the BIOS using your method, when removing the battery for 5 minutes gives the same effect 🙂 When I overdid the OC, this method worked, but everyone has their own way. Besides, I wouldn't even risk resetting the BIOS settings by touching two pins next to the battery without removing the battery, the electronics are very delicate.
In the old computer I had 2 pairs of different companies with the same parameters (also outside the QVL list) and everything worked for 8 years of use and still works today, even CoD BO CW & BFV works without any problems, the only problem was a low FPS because the i5-750 already he couldn't cope. But I agree with you that in order to eliminate memory instability 100%, it is recommended to have all 4 RAM sticks the same.
Stress test - in my opinion this is the only way to check whether all components work together and whether the power supply is able to provide the appropriate voltages at the maximum power consumption of the computer. Now that you know this, you should know that all connectors have some type of latches, so the likelihood of a loose cable is slim.If you saw such SSDs on which the system remained and it was impossible to format them, it probably already used all the writing cells on the SSD or the flash memory was damaged and the user whose computer you were working on was lucky that the SSD went into read-only mode, worse, as if was completely damaged, then data recovery could be a problem, unlike the HDD.
Flash memories are delicate, it doesn't take much for them to get damaged and go into read-only mode (worse if they fail completely, then there is a problem even with data recovery, you can recover data from an HDD even if it is physically damaged, but from flash memory not necessarily)
I also saw an NVME disk that, after writing less than 40 GB, generated bad sectors and was thrown into the trash. After 2 replacements under warranty, I replaced it with a Samsung disk and it still works. If my method doesn't work, I'll give you the opportunity to help @hotproperty11 .
Cheers and have fun playing.SpoilerIf my english is bad, then sorry, english isn't my 1st lang.- Rokebo732 years agoSeasoned Ace
@DMGG1994 Yeah ssd did got a broken chip, forgot specs from the damaged chip.
Couldnt format or wipe/delete partition anymore.
No diskpart, no partition tool software (even in other pc), nothing , it was readonly indeed, hahaha
I forgot to say that a sata cable could be broken .
why i advise connecting jumpers instead of removing battery, is some people use to much force to just bend that little clip to get battery out.
Or people try to move that clip and scratches motherboard cause the didnt align coresectly (or to much force).
There are so many thing thatt could cause an error, even issues with hardware that causes other hardware to act / behave weird.
Silicon lottery they say, if its cpu , sdd, ram or what ever , something not correctly configured / broken / fauylty could cause an issue(s) ya never expect.
For example, bios reset and system did run ok
Memory not in qvl who give sfc /scannow errors, or pagefile erros. Or game just did run for some minutes and then shut down / or system reboots.
Check older topics where i did support people with memory issues.
Most of them got same errors, but also some weird errors , from bsod till not able to game, Mhz issues , gpu not detectd issues ect ect ect ect
Just by memory issues <-- 😉
Cheersps the new boards (chipset z690 / z790) are more sensitve for those memory issues !!
