Hey mate,

Sounds crazy but do you have the game installed on an SSD? At some point I had the same issue as you, always had to load the game twice in order to get past the loading screen to play a game. BF2042 was stored on my secondary hard disk and not the SSD. After I reinstalled the game to the SSD, problem went away.
