SecureBoot is not enabled. This is how Battlefield 2042 became unplayable.

After the BATTLEFIELD 2042 UPDATE #8.8.0, I cannot start the game due to the error "SecureBoot is not enabled" ... (111). This is not acceptable. I cannot activate SecureBoot because it's not suppor...

My desktop has way too much work stuff on it, it would take me days to get it all back in working order.

Why you straight think that you will mess it up? There is only small amount of players who have messed it up but that's due to not looking guide first. It is not that hard at all and most likely you don't lose anything.

My new laptop does not have it on, and it's under warranty for the next 2 years, so there is no way I could change anything in it's BIOS. And even if that wasn't the case, I have no Windows key | an installer for it.

New laptop and doesn't have Secure Boot enabled? That is standard requirement nowadays and all new have it enabled.
About windows license.. If you had windows installed when you bought your PC then it is tied to your hardware ID and it is permanent.

  • To find your license
  1. Open PowerShell as Administrator
  2. Type: 
    (Get-WmiObject -query 'select * from SoftwareLicensingService').OA3xOriginalProductKey
  3. Your product key will appear in the window

  • Determining Your License Type
  1. Open Command Prompt or PowerShell as Administrator
  2. Type: slmgr /dli and press Enter
  3. The Windows Script Host dialog will show your license type (Retail, OEM, or Volume)

  • Understanding License Types:
  1. Retail: Purchased separately, transferable to new devices (must deactivate old one first)
  2. OEM: Came preinstalled on your device, tied to that hardware and non-transferable
  3. Volume: For organizations, uses master key for multiple activations

I have tried my desktop, and it gave me blank black screen... 

And disabling secure boot will brick your windows, if you installed using it. So to use your windows, you will have to re-enable it. It is not interchangeable.

As for the laptop, black screens all around.

My previous laptop (Acer Predator Helios 16 2023) did have secure boot on, but it had to be turned off for virtualization and dual boot (the one that 'lost the harddrive' between each enabling of secure boot).

My new laptop (ThinkPad T14s) does in fact not have it enabled, warranty deep into 2027, and I am not even sure how the OEM or Retail OS is installed or re-installed. Further more, it might also 'lose the harddrive' like my previous laptop, making it impossible to use install media.

P.S. I am an programmer, and I have to test my solutions on different OS' and applications. So, atleast for me, backing-up my work and re-installing an OS will take a rather long time.

Also... I wouldn't be able to attend any more LAN parties.
