SOFLAM from Battlefield 3 portal doesn't work

Summarize your bug Whenever I deploy the SOFLAM I can not change its direction and I'm pretty sure it is not designating targets.
How often does the bug occur? Every time (100%)
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? Create or login to a Portal server that is running Battlefield 3 factions. Choose a Battlefield 3 recon soldier with a SOFLAM in loadout. Press deploy to deploy your soldier then select the SOFLAM and press the key bound to deploy. The SOFLAM will be set on the ground but you cannot access it again. If you try to access it the game just switches you back to your primary weapon.
What happens when the bug occurs? You cant access the SOFLAM or control it in anyway which is a problem if you are dealing with air vehicles as you cant aim it up and I have no indication whether it is designating targets.
What should be happening instead? If it is based on the Battlefield 3 SOFLAM then once it is deployed you should be able to connect to it. When connected your view point should shift to the SOFLAMs view point and you should be able to control where it is pointing. You should also be able to use it for spotting.

I had family over recently and they wanted to play some Battlefield games so I put Battlefield 3, Battlefield 4 and Battlefield 2042 back on my computer. One of them mentioned when playing a Battlefield 3 portal experience that they couldn't use the Battlefield 3 SOFLAM, at first I thought that this was a user issue but when I tried I could not get it to work either.

You can set it on the ground but you cannot look through it or control it. Every time you try to access it the game switches you to your primary weapon. Neither of us could tell if was designating targets either.
